On another note, we dont know who did it. This man viewed his behavior as being above Gods laws, and he was flaunting it.
How do we know this isnt something deeply personal? For all we know, it could have been the result of a secret affair.
Maybe we should wait until all the facts have come out on this.
Occam's Razor allows us to comment on the most likely. It may indeed be something else. But for now we have to go with the simplest explanation.
If he was murdered for "the cause", then the murderer has done the opposite of what they intended.

Human nature states we don’t murder for causes (unless we’re insane), we murder for selfish, personal reasons.
Abortion is the perfect example of this.
