Two martinis, a swank restaurant, a Broadway show President Obama really knows how to treat a First Lady.
"I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished," the president said yesterday after touching down at JFK for an intimate night on the town.
The first couple left their girls, Sasha and Malia, behind at the White House yesterday afternoon, taking two helicopters and a small Air Force jet to make their way to Manhattan.
The Obamas were dressed to the nines -- Michelle in a sleeveless, black cocktail dress adorned with fringe, a pair of low, strappy heels and a turquoise clutch; and the president in a dark suit and white shirt, no tie.
The first stop after touch ing down at JFK was a meal at a low-key, but elegant, Greenwich Village restau rant, Blue Hill, which boasts farm fresh, locally grown dishes.
Obamas were tucked into an out-of-the- way corner table where they enjoyed a multi- course feast specially prepared by the chef. They washed down the fine fare with wine, said a fellow diner, who also no ticed Michelle re laxing with a cou ple of martinis.
Photographers were kept blocks away be hind barri cades for the first couple's privacy.
"We left them alone the entire night," said Blue Hill diner Rachael Levit, of Manhattan. "Nobody asked for autographs or took any pictures. They were laughing and talking and seemed like they had a genuinely good time."

Then it was up to Broadway, where they had tickets at the Belasco Theatre for "Joe Turner's Come and Gone," a play by August Wilson about a man coming to terms with the history of slavery.

i worked the detail for his visit last night. not a fun night for us. hundreds and hundreds of cops standing around on overtime. only working the 5 minutes he drove uptown and the 5 minutes he drive back down.
Whether it’s true or not, the MSM is going to report them as royalty. If I were Obama, I’d be a bit afraid though. Remember what happened to the last royal First Couple. Once the people who are really behind him and are calling the shots get what they want, they won’t have any more use for him. If Kennedy had been allowed to serve is term to completion, he wouldn’t have been as big a hero.
** DISCLAIMER: This is no way is a threat against any official of the US Government **
Oh, this is too much fun.
***...”that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished,...”
It’s NEVER finished, Mr. 0. What if we were attacked while you were swilling wine and martinis and joy riding around in planes costing US $73,000? Would that leave Foot-in-the-mouth Biden in charge?
***”...elegant, Greenwich Village restaurant, Blue Hill, which boasts farm fresh, locally grown dishes.*** Who writes this junk. Last time I was in Greenwich Village, the only “locally grown dishes” I saw were cockroaches.
And, of course, they chose a black show to make sure they got applause.
And did you see Michelle’s shoulders in the picture on the Post?
there was never a photo of that Memorial day golf outing either, was there? seriously, if bush did ANY of this stuff, lib heads would explode, but this doesn’t even raise an eyebrow anywhere.
I had a very good time last night for 30 bucks....which I am paying for this morning. Hair of the dog. lol
Has there been a time when he did look presidential?
Good catch, Honeybunch....I missed that. And, it makes me sick to my stomach.
I’d have been more impressed if they’d ‘taken in’ The Norman Conquests’, by probably the greatest dramatist in the English-speaking world, Alan Ayckbourn, but it’s not PC enough, when “Joe Turner” is also on Broadway.
Hope they enjoyed “dinner and a show” , of course, courtesy of US!
I wouldn’t have expected anything more or less of “the ‘Bamas”.
I look forward to Barry’s ‘review’ of the play, since it’s about a man “coming to terms with slavery?”, ....was that it?
Oh dear Lord! So this means Obama is down with "the struggle"?
At least SHE looked appropriately dressed for the occasion.
Honestly, I think she looks the best I've seen her...maybe because it's summer and the sleevless doesn't look as funny as when snow is on the ground.
Who paid for the Air Force Jet? It better not have been us.
“I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished,”
You have to be kidding me. “Oh Barack, I am so stressed with this presidential campaign stuff, the only thing I have ever wanted is to see a Broadway show, pleeeeeez when it is over will you take me?” Are we really buying this?
What was I thinking?!
they look bored and pissed at each other, and all Americans
he doesn’t look happy either.
He walks with his hands in his pockets?
How telling. . .
