Former President George W. Bush may finally upstage Dick Cheney this week. After months of silence while Cheney has been blasting away at President Obama, Bush is scheduled to make two semi-public appearances.

Tonight he'll speak to to the Economic Club of Southwest Michigan at Lake Michigan College. It's being billed as his first major speech to an American audience. The news media will be allowed to attend the event, but not record it. Right.

All that does is provide more stature to Bill Clinton.

How soon we forget, GW proclaimed that he had found a new brother, and his father a new son. (Talking about Clinton)

Locked away in his whitehouse castle, silence has been Bush’s policy for many years now. Which is why everything is such a mess for the GOP.

I have actually met with him ~ 1 hour in his office.

You/we are truly blessed to have had that opportunity. How thrilled you must have been for that precious hour. Thanks for your thoughts and impressions on this great man and President.

I delivered a special message to him from our wounded warriors. His reaction stunned me, and sealed my loyalty to him forever!

GW has a photographic memory — it blew my mind the stuff he can throw out on the cuff!

That's what the troops tell me all the time!
President Bush presented the Purple Heart to Tony when he was still in a hospital bed missing a leg. Several months later during a visit to the White House, President Bush saw Tony walking across the lawn and yelled; Hey Tony, how you doing? I see you got your new leg!

President Bush visited Chad at Walter Reed Hospital. There was a collection of NY Yankee stuff in the corner of the room. Dubya asked Chad if he was a Yankees fan. Chad replied; No, but someone sent me the stuff and I appreciate it. I'm from Missouri and a Saint Louis Cardinal fan, actually.
[The Cards had just won the World Series] President Bush said; Well you will have to come over to the House when they come to visit.
Sure enough, a couple of months later the White House contacted Chad and invited him to the White House to meet the St.Louis Cards.

How so many can denigrate this good and decent man makes my blood boil!

Why should the Bush family go away? Freedom of Speech, they can say whatever they want to say. Now, the speech from W that I’m really looking forward to will occur in a few years, when he stands before the world and says ‘Ha! I wasn’t that bad after all, WAS I????’

Yes, He fought the war on terror, but even the war on terror was rather half-assed. He should have surged long ago for one thing. And to be honest, our troops endured incompetent tactics for YEARS. Endless convoys down unsecure roads, certain to be attacked, yet no effort to secure those supply lines.

And though fave liberal cause, Armored HMMV’s to better protect from IEDs? Well, I thought one day,, how we built the entire WWII military in 3.5 years. So why it take almost 4 years to pump out enough Armored vehicles?

Next he willfully allowed numerous outrages to happen to our troops. They were investigated by the FBI and prosecuted for *normal infantry actions* occuring in *battles and firefights*. This is utterly sickening.
Its not even in doubt that Iran was killing out boys with the IEDs, and even with direct actions. He never put Iran on notice and bombed them at the next offense.

Worst of all was his failure to fight the war of opinion in any way at all. He simply gave that theater of operations to the enemy and their democrat allies.

I think hes a nice man still. But you’d have to be blind to not see that he was incompetent through the war, and is a new world order guy in finances. He destroyed the idea of conservatism so bad, that we wound up with Obama.

I believe if one would look back to Live Threads following some of his speeches, they were some of the longest in history on FR. He seemed to have many more supporters back then<

Yup, Freepers are some of the worst history-revisers around.

George Bush gave a number of EXCELLENT speeches, cheered here even on FR.

Freepers are excellent at one thing. Being fickle. Their "hero" of today is always the "RINO" of tomorrow.

However, he kept us safe and strong militarily for 8 years.

There was a episode of Gomer Pyle, where the sergeant's sister wanted to date, and Vince was a little over protective. She decides to pretend to date Gomer, and Vince went wild.

Her response, "But Vince he is a Marine."

Needless to say Vince recognized that maybe being a marine just didn't outweigh the short comings.

Time we all opened our eyes like the sarge did.

“We need President Bush now more than ever before.”
Do not include me in your “we.”

That's okay banalblues, you may include me! I guess Gatun prefers the Islamofascist Communist that is residing in the People's House today.

but he failed at the important things

Yes he did, but few here recognize it. Many worshiped GW, and Rove.

because he and Cheney are playing a game of good cop/bad cop with them.

Oh good grief, not another super secret, super genius plan. He had lots of these already, according to Bush Bots on this forum. I don't hate the man, I hate his legacy.

What a load of BS! President Bush spoke nearly everyday, sometimes giving more than one speech/talk/presser in any given day. Where the hell were you for 8 years -- locked up in your Ivory Tower with nothing but the ENEMEDIA to feed you the news?

You’ve touched on a number of problems I see with him.

That part about Iran is critical. We allowed Iran to train and supply. Iran’s military capabilities should have been bombed back to the stone age on that alone.

Look, I think there’s some gray area with regard to the vehicles. He was stuck with them, and short of putting in tanks there wasn’t going to be anything else for a while. To my way of thinking, this was evidence of a failure in long range planning. What hurt us most took place before Bush came into office. We didn’t have the vehicle we needed for that war. Why the hell not?

What did we expect to happen on the field of battle, with our guys driving around in exotic jeeps. Duh! And who couldn’t have figured that out in the late 80s or early 90s?

IMO< the Iran pipeline cost us the most troops. Without that support, the terrorism would have waned early on.

That’s been another of my questions why no one cares, it’s never mentioned in any discussions on tv....

Right before the election, so obviously deliberate.

My dime pile is very, very small, but I’ll make that bet with you.

I do wish President Bush would, for once, come out fighting.

I too, but it probably is a vain wish. Just think what Bush knows and could tell if he was so inclined--he could blow the 'rats out of the water-- but I fear he just doesn't have the taste for it.

He had the opportunity to deal a serious blow to the left, but he decided to go along with them instead.

True enough. He made history in 2002 by increasing his majority in Congress in an off-year election--a rare feat. He won in 2004 by 3 million votes...then, from his second inaugural onward, he flaked out. Make of him what you will, he was a failure as a visionary, and that's what enabled the 'rats to eat his lunch for four long gut-wrenching years.
