Ridge takes aim at 'shrill' Limbaugh Posted: 09:00 AM ET
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
(CNN) Pennsylvania Republican Tom Ridge is taking direct aim at Rush Limbaugh, telling CNN's John King the conservative talk radio host can be "shrill" and uses language in a way "that offend very many."
"Rush Limbaugh has an audience of 20 million people. A lot of people listen daily to him and live by every word. But words mean things and how you use words is very important," Ridge, the former Homeland Security Secretary under President Bush, said during an interview airing Sunday on CNN's State of The Union.
"It does get the base all fired up and he's got a strong following," Ridge continued. "But personally, if he would listen to me and I doubt if he would, the notion is express yourself but let's respect others opinions and let's not be divisive."
The comments come in the wake of a war of words between Limbaugh and Colin Powell, during which the former secretary of state suggested the GOP's future was in peril if it went in the direction of the popular radio talker. Limbaugh quickly hit back, proclaiming Powell is part of the "stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

Goodness such wisdom, you sound like Janeane Garofalo there.
That’s kind of weak.
You can do better.
Why do you hate Jesus so?
So we have my use of “ignorant” to describe a poster, vs. your use of “newbie”. Perhaps you need to read something yourself.
Or better yet, perhaps you need to learn to deal with the issues rather than waving a rulebook around at anyone you disagree with.
Who?
Who?
And he is not bright enough to understand that the press is out to use him for ginned up controversies. A willing, unthinking, tool.
In your dreams. No offense but, are you by chance a Log Cabin Republican?
I honestly think it's because it hasn't occurred to him that he's allowed to praise Rush for what he does right and blast Katie and Keith and Babs for what they do wrong.
What we have to do is educate these people that an obnoxious honest person who provides reliable information is infinitely better than a polite person who is either a fool and/or a liar.
And if the obnoxious honest person is funny that's even better.
And I'm probably higher on Ridge now than I am at any time in my life especially considering as how I never voted for him.
He praised Williams and spurned the country club crowd by choosing not to run against Toomey.
Apparently, Ridge isn't a conservative. It's amazing how, one by one, the RINO's volunteer to throw themselves under the bus.
Rush’s critics will never learn that the worst thing they can do to him is ignore him. Every time they trash him publicly his ratings go up. Those who hate him indirectly contribute to the hundreds of millions that he earns. Let ‘em chew on that!
—No offense but, are you by chance a Log Cabin Republican?—
Afraid not. And if you’re looking for a date, you’ve come to the wrong place!
They'd have stayed home.
And, while I voted for McCain, I wouldn't have blamed them. There was no motivation to vote for McCain alone (less if he chose Ridge). And voting against another candidate simply isn't as strong a motivation to act.
Are you one of those Washington consultants advising the GOP? Sure sound like one...
—Are you one of those Washington consultants advising the GOP?—
Why would I bother giving advice to a dying institution? The GOP is in the same shape that the dinosaurs were in 65 million years ago, right after the big meteor hit. It’s on its last legs, only it hasn’t realized it yet.
yes, after being led by moderates like Bob Dole, John McCain, and Mr. Compassionate Conservative himself, W, the Republicans are in exactly the shape you claim. Seriously, after Dole and McCain, why should we ever listen to the “moderate wing” again? McCain was THE guy! Remember? The moderate maverick, loved by the press. The Straight Talk Express!
Much of what you are saying is contradictory. You say that the “wooden church, Taliban” whatever is a wrong-headed stereotype, but you recommend that the party allow itself to be defined that way. You don’t seem to have much of a grasp of what conservatism is. I sense troll.
Sorry Tommy. This is not the time to play nicey-nice!
Easy to say; not so easy to do.
It’ll have to get brutal to do that, I think.
Tom Ridge is a coward. Wrapped in a spineless jelly. Surrounded by fear.
