SWORDLESS SAILORS Graduating midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis are being told in writing to leave at home or in their vehicles all "ceremonial swords" and anything else "that might be considered a weapon or a threat by screeners" for Friday's outdoor commencement ceremonies featuring an address by President Barack Obama.

I guess the ZERO Tolerance policy expands to the military academies.

They are warriors! The so-called president has symbolically castrated them.

No one seems to be saying anything about the Zero’s speech. Was it that meaningless, nothing but the usual cliches, bromides and platitudes? Not even Fox has commented on it.

Nothing this administration does surprises me - they are scum and not worthy to polish the boots of our military.

Today was my third USNA graduation/commissioning since 2005. The graduating Midshipmen have never carried swords at graduation during this period (unlike at West Point, where the cadets do wear ceremonial swords to graduation, and they did so when President Bush attended their graduation in 2006).
So, I don’t really understand this memorandum. It is possible that family members might conceivably have wanted to bring their new Ensign’s or 2nd Lt’s sword for a photo op at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, and that this memo might have been thusly directed.
Obama’s speech was insipid.

Yeah, honestly, I’m not surprised.
But does the president appear every year, or not?

I don't quite understand what all this is about. Last year Admiral Mullen gave the address. Here is a picture of three of the graduates on May 23, 2008. I see that they are wearing no swords.

I didn’t write the story I just posted it. Possibly someone with more information should notify the author at the Washington Post.

For over 233 years, this wasn’t a problem, but all of a sudden it is? I guess he finally read the DHS report about veterans turning into terrorists, huh? I am so glad I no longer wear the uniform of the United States! That’s the first time I’ve ever had to say that!!

What, would a Navy officer try to jump and stab the Zero with his ceremonial sword, driving it through his chest?
I would do so (if I had the will).
