WASHINGTON President Obama told human rights advocates at the White House on Wednesday that he was mulling the need for a preventive detention system that would establish a legal basis for the United States to incarcerate terrorism suspects who are deemed a threat to national security but cannot be tried, two participants in the private session said.
The discussion, in a 90-minute meeting in the Cabinet Room that included Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and other top administration officials, came on the eve of a much-anticipated speech Mr. Obama is to give Thursday on a number of thorny national security matters, including his promise to close the detention center at the naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
Human rights advocates are growing deeply uneasy with Mr. Obamas stance on these issues, especially his recent move to block the release of photographs showing abuse of detainees, and his announcement that he is willing to try terrorism suspects in military commissions a concept he criticized bitterly as a presidential candidate.

Will Bill Ayers get the gulags he’s always wanted for Conservatives?
The Gitmo detainees were captured abroad.
This would permit putting those deemed “threats” into concentration camps in the US.
Did you catch wind of the “threat list” that included former US military veterans, gun rights advocates, pro-life advocates, etc?
And the difference between DHS or NSA or the FBI doing this is?
LOLOL......Bob Beckel reading his talking points.
Faux outrage from Beckel
According to Obomas Homeland Security Report, it means Christian grandparents, hunters, disgruntled tax payers, Constitutionalists, vets.......
“Im sure liberals will call Godwin!! with the Nazi references here”
That’s getting tougher to do, with Obama following the NAzi example for TOTAL CONTROl, step by fascist step.
We’ve already had the Enabling Act (Porkulus and the Bailout Bill), next comes the Corporate Takeovers.
And when some lobne loon finally takes things in to thier own hands, as things go from bad to even worse, he’ll have his “Riechstag Fire” excuse to start the detentions of Political enemies.
(from the breathless article) “much-anticipated speech Mr. Obama is to give Thursday”
I may listen to 0’s weekly State of the Union address to try and divine what he means, keeping in mind that his words are at least as trustworthy as Slick Willie’s, and he has his lapdogs Shumer and Hillary making noises about how the border is secure, but we’re (the USA is) arming Mexico ...
The issue seems to be, who does he mean when he says “terrorists”.
If I buy out of state I thought the shop ask’s for ID. Once they see the NJ license that’s the end and they’ll have to conform to the NJ state rules? Is that true?
To this very moment I remain peeved that GWB did not DEMAND a Congressional Declaration of War against all jihadi groups listed annually on the (statutorily enforced) Designated Terrorist List from the State Dept.
So many ambiguous and intractable problems have resulted from this failure and now we have yet another one that will potentially allow a Socialist president to invoke "preemptive incarcerations" without warrant or charges. bear in mind that this is possible because GWB failed to completely pull terrorism out of the criminal justice framework and into the realm of military conflict. He had the chance to do so and did not.
This is not at all to indict Gitmo or the capture, incarceration, or treatment of anyone held there. Those guys were and remain Illegal Combatants (aka Unlawful Combatants) in a semi-declared war. They are not criminals, but rather the equivalent of spies and other un-uniformed combatants.
But the unfinished business of 9/11 simply will not quit, IMO due entirely to the ambiguous ground upon which the conflict has remained mired.
Next will come “Preventive Execution”. Just to be safe!
The problem is, this isn’t going to end up being used against the terrorists, but rather on political prisoners of the conservative persuasion.
And so it begins.
“Who gets to decide who is to be detained?”
-Why, your local Political Commissar/Party Gaultier/ Democrat Precinct Committeeman, OF COURSE!
“And who gets to decide if they are a threat to national security?”
-SEE ABOVE....
“Could Rush Limbaugh be detained under this?”
-YES....
“Could anyone who disagrees with the Obama administration be considered a threat to national security and thus be detained, even if they could not prosecuted?”
-YES...
Remember, the Nazi Gaultier’s operated in “good faith.”
They believed what they were doing was right. Even if they did not so believe, they were just “following orders”.
Welcome to the Fascist States of America, folks...
NOW you begin to undersatnd why Obama called the Constitution a “fatally-flawed Document”.
>If I buy out of state I thought the shop asks for ID. Once they see the NJ license thats the end and theyll have to conform to the NJ state rules? Is that true?
I don’t think so... after all you can move out of state and keep your old ID for a while, right? Who’s to say that’s not what you did?
Naaaaaaw. He'll probably put Ayers in charge of the Civilian Defense Force and the first inmate will be NRA Executive VP Wayne LaPierre.
In Czechoslovakia they executed about 150,000 dissidents in the show trials, and many of the people applauded. Later, they found out that they had been duped.
Disagree. In the case of sex offenders, there is a real mental health issue involved. Permanent incarceration is legit for them.
Can't agree. The citizen/noncitizen line is very clear.
Again, the sad thing is it probably WAS required to fight the communists, but once a tool like that is in the hands of the wrong faction, it is inevitably turned against any and all opponents of the regime. Then once you have them all rounded up, the question becomes what are you going to DO with them, feeding them is expensive, and I think we all know what the NAZI regime did.
