Why teach from “cases” and not from the words of the authors?

This assumption is that law evolves instead of being based in a firm, unchanging foundation.

Because the job of a lawyer is to represent his client ... if you do not know the current status of the caselaw, you will not be able to make an effective argument for your client, regardless of whether you agree or not with the cases.
