'Aleck Baldwin doesn’t deserve a Filipina wife'

MANILA, Philippines - First, Teri Hatcher questioned the medical certificates of Filipino doctors. Then, British show Harry & Paul ridiculed a Filipina maid as a sex symbol. And just recently, Chinese columnist Chip Tsao called the Philippines a nation of slaves.

Now, it’s 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin's turn, joining the ranks of "internationally-recognized" celebrities who have maligned Filipinos, according to critics.

Baldwin – a divorced father of a 13-year-old girl – told David Letterman in one of his last interviews on the Late Show, how he taught of getting, or buying, himself a Filipina bride.

“I think about getting a Filipino mail-order bride at this point or a Russian one, I don’t care, I’m 51," Baldwin told Letterman in a May 12 interview. [See: Alec Baldwin's Letterman interview]

Seemingly delivered in jest, Baldwin’s remark caused the audience to break into laughter and prompted the show’s host, Letterman, to respond: "Get one for me [also], for later."

LBFM is definitely a blast from the past. I went to Subic x4 while with the Pineapple Fleet. Once we had shipmate who had missed the deployment out of Pearl due to having suffered a broken arm the month before we left. When he got his cast removed, he was flown out to meet us and got there the day before we left. In his limited time in town, he caught three cases of gonorrhea. (Driveshaft, throat, eye, EWWWW!).

For the duration of his hitch onboard we just called the guy "The Clapper." I cannot for the life of me even remember his real name.

I grew up with a large Filipino community in my city. I attended tons of Novenas that went late into the night with great food and gambling. They are great people with a wonderful sense of family, pride and culture. Alec Baldwin does NOT deserve a Filipina wife.

These elitists might trash Filipinos, but they are trashing people who are good-hearted, industrious, honest and generous. Neither Baldwin, Letterman, or any of the other elitists would qualify to sweep the floor of a Filipino’s hut.

I met my wonderful Filipina wife eleven years ago and we’ve been married for over six years with a beautiful baby daughter. As conservative as I am, my wife’s traditional, conservative values make me look like punk-rocker.

Someone like Alec Balwin is not worthy of a beautiful, family-oriented Filipina wife. Of course, he wouldn’t understand that. Crawling the bars in Vegas is probably a better bet for him...
