We need at least $0.25 worth of difference between the Pub and the Rat to get anyone excited.

The big tent includes the producers of who? All that is wrong with this civilization.

Civilization cannot survive with twelve-year-olds having babies, fifteen-year-olds shooting one another, seventeen-year-olds dying of AIDS, and eighteen-year-olds graduating with diplomas they cannot read.

I agree, a Big Tent is needed. But not at the expense of sacrificing principles. If you don't stand for something, you will never stand for anything. I was very hopeful that Steele would be the correct choice. I'm not sure anymore. Maybe his hands are tied by the party elites that are fighting for their political lives.

I have to sadly agree with the Dems on one thing. They found a good salesman in Obama. Their salesmen in the last two elections, Gore and Kerry couldn't sell the goods (ideology). I even read one quote of Obama’s that said “You give it to me, I will sell it.” He did.

Since the vast majority of America really doesn't follow politics, but are enamored by looks, cool and other nonessential requirements...maybe the Repubs should take a page from their playbook. Find a young, vibrant candidate to sell conservative principles. (and since the vast majority are pretty superficial, good looking with a nice build.) One who speaks well and can use an Ipod. Do I think these things are important? No, but a lot of people (especially the young) do.

To continue trotting out the “Old Guard” as nominees and sending them on “Listening Tours” is futile. The “Old Guard” isn't really conservative for the most part.

I saw a lot of young people at the TEA party I attended. I think choosing the candidate that “sells” conservative values can win. Let's face it..Obama didn't win by a landslide. Thanks for letting me rant. :)

Dude, where the heck have you been? The Republican Party has been a Big Tent party ever since Bush was elected. Why do you want to support the same goals that the Dems support?

I want to win too, but if a "big tent" means accepting the unacceptable then I would rather loose. And it's not that I'm a one issue voter. It is that a politician who are willing to sell out on any issue of this magnitude are not trust worthy. And if they actually believe pro murder is an appropriate position their reasoning skills are flawed.

It’s a calculation and regarding abortion, the goal is to have the fewest possible. Delivering the message of big tent unity with the provisions of Pro-Life requires mastery of statesmanship that I’m not confident Chairman Steele possesses.

I get it. Let’s be pro-life and pro-abortion, pro-gun and anti-gun, pro-small government and low taxes and pro-big government and huge taxes, pro-military and anti-military, pro-same sex marriage and anti-same sex marriage, pro-bailouts and anti-bailouts, pro-captialism and pro-socialism, pro-freedom and anti-freedom, pro-American and anti-American.

We’ll be the party that agrees with both sides on every issue
, “The Party About Nothing”.

That will win over the voters.

The problem is that this DOES NOT win elections. If your fundamental assumption is that standing for nothing will inspire voters, shouldn't you TEST your core assumption? You will NOT win elections. Liberal Republicans cannot win elections. They cannot inspire the conservative base, who are the ones who do all the work of elections. Liberal Republicans don't do the work of elections, they don't get their hands dirty. And the voters won't vote for a pale imitation of a Democrat. They will vote for the Democrat. People are looking for leadership, honesty, and competence. They will vote for an honest liberal before a dishonest Republican trying to appease liberals.
