Thanks for the ping!
The open hostility of the liberal Left towards Israel, thanks in large part to the anti-Israel bias of the media and their support of radical Arabs that we see in full force today, did begin in 1979, but not as a result of Carter or the Iranian Revolution.
It began with the creation of the newspaper, Sharq Al Awsat, in 1979, by Saudi Arabia, and transmitted throughout the Arab world. This was followed by the purchase of Al Hayat, and the financial backing given by Saudi Arabia to its own publications gave them an edge over the competition, which could not afford news bureaus or modern printing presses, and made it easy for the Saudis to pressure others into joining them in return for financial aid.
Not only does Saudi Arabia dominate and control the news coming in and out of the Middle East, they are also the dominant source of anti-Israel, anti-Semitic propaganda throughout the world. Arabs and Muslims finally discovered that the only way to gain control of Israel was to gain control of both the Middle Eastern media ans the Western media.
The European countries, with their historical, anti-Semitic roots and growing Muslim populations, along with direct threats to Western journalists, became the media pawns of the Palestinian propaganda machine.
The House of Saud and the House of Bush were in the same neighborhood, if not on the same block. Yet, the Bushes seemed to play both sides of the street with the President supporting Israel and the State Department supporting the same terrorist entities that keep trying to destroy it.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats who LOATHED President Bush for supporting Israel, but LOVED the State Department for supporting Israel’s enemies, now have both a President and an entire administration they can love for their collective anti-Israel mindset.
At a much earlier point in my life, I was a staunch Democrat, but it was their growing hatred of Israel and Jews over the last two decades that drove me into the arms of the Republican party, and not its conservative message.
As Israel goes, so goes America.
I would like to get more up to speed on the steps that spawned this, but finding time to read a book is getting to be an increasingly rare luxury.
