In Detainee Furor, a Rare Dent in Pelosi Armor

WASHINGTON — After many failed efforts, Republicans have finally found a weak spot in Nancy Pelosi’s political armor as a fight over detainee interrogations engulfs Ms. Pelosi, Republicans and intelligence officials.

The furor was heightened on Friday when the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Leon E. Panetta, pushed back against an assertion by Ms. Pelosi, a Democrat who is the House speaker, that she had been misled by agency representatives seven years ago about harsh treatment of terrorism suspects, a claim that struck a raw nerve at the spy headquarters.

Mr. Panetta, a former Democratic congressman from California and a longtime associate of Ms. Pelosi, issued a statement that said the agency’s “contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that C.I.A. officers briefed truthfully,” a rebuttal of Ms. Pelosi’s claim on Thursday that intelligence officials had lied to her.

It's looking increasingly likely that we're going to need a Truth Commission to get the truth out of runaway bride look-alike Nancy Pelosi.

First she denied being briefed about how rough Dick Cheney was treating Abu Zubaydah. Then she admitted being briefed but that the rough treatment was still in the planning stage at the time of the briefing which she forgot about. She insisted she was never told the techniques had been used. Then she admitted being told, but that it was a staffer who told her, not CIA briefers. She denied being 'complicit' in secrecy. Then she said the secrecy of the evil torture program kept her from speaking out. Her latest explanation is that the CIA lied to only one member of Congress -- her.

A hint that the San Francisco twit has *stepped in it* big time is the fact that the press is covering it. Even the New York Times notices a problem with Pelosi's several hundred conflicting explanations. Pelosi Defends Her Position on Interrogation Briefings, one headline read. Only on rare occasions does the word "defends" appear in the same headline as a Democrat. Usually, it's Democratic so-and-so stands firmly behind position despite vicious, despicable, right-wing smear . . . or similar fair and balanced headlines.

The media even reported the CIA Director's message to his employees contradicting Pelosi. Pelosi says her discredited explanations are true because the CIA lied to her. Director Leon Panetta wrote in his message that "it is not our practice to mislead Congress," not even Pelosi, who is easy. "As the Agency indicated previously," CIA officers had "briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah," including "the enhanced techniques that had been employed" by the Agency, Panetta vigorously noted -- marking the first time a Democrat said something vigorously nice about the Agency.

"No, no, no . . . it doesn't make me complicit, no," complained Nancy at her bizarre presser Thursday, as she rifled through her notes on when she forgot this and remembered that.

Pelosi is so stupid she didn't realize (until late in the game) that once you start slapping the "torture" label on EITs (Enhanced Interrogation Techniques) while admitting you kept quiet, the charge of complicity follows. Having neatly painted herself into the torture corner, she now has to engage in some enhancing of her own, claiming the CIA briefing (that she forgot about but now suddenly recalls vividly) lied to her. She denies knowing about the "torture", despite her torturing us for years with her face.

All of this was to bag the Bush lawyers on a torture rap, but Nancy's hoisted herself on her own petard instead. It's a dumb idea to pick a fight with the CIA and accuse it of lying, so Pelosi did so. Warning: This is your brain on botox.

Most of the pundits are wondering, Was Pelosi lying then or is she lying now? What I want to know is how a moron became House Speaker? Then again, there's B. Hussein.

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

Truth Commission?
To me, it's looking increasingly likely that we're going to need to resort to waterboarding to get the truth out of Nanzi Pelozi.

Obviously there is a “hit” on her coming from the Chicago Way White House. If the NYT and the late night comedy hosts are bagging her, she’s done. It would not matter if there were a video of her personally waterboarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, so long as the mainstream pop media was saying not to believe your lying eyes. But when they come out against one of their own, it’s all over but the embalming. Oh, wait. That’s done too.

"coming from the Chicago Way White House"

That's been my theory. There was some talk that the "stimulus" wasn't exactly what the WH wanted but it was more what Reid/Pelosi wanted. At the time I wondered if it was cover but now I dunno, Obama might be trying to get someone in who is more pliable or wants to send a message.

In any event I think the headline is wrong, this isn't republican generated, from sulking around in the gutter (aka left wing sites) it looks to be the left has been after Nan ever since she said that prosecution of Bush was "off the table". They want her gone or at least the vocal nuts do.

They seem to be really, really miffed about that.

A dent?

If things play out the way I suspect they will, Pelosi’s armor is going to look more like she took a direct hit from a late-model RPG...

Rare Dent?

The old bat is as dented as tinfoil wrapped around a dead fish. The only things keeping her smooth image are face lifts, botox, and media fawning.

A version of this article appeared in print on May 16, 2009, on page A10 of the New York edition.

Pelosi's meltdown still doesn't merit Page 1 coverage at the NY Times. Stupid. Amazing bias.

“After many failed efforts, Republicans have finally found a weak spot in Nancy Pelosi’s political armor as a fight over detainee interrogations engulfs Ms. Pelosi”

So, from this opening, the Times is stressing that this dustup is about the Republicans trying to find a weak spot in Pelosi’s armor. Certainly NOT that they might have genuine concern over her and democrats releasing secret information, lying about it, giving aid and comfort to our enemies, etc. No, its only about politics.

Think about what transpired during the Bush Admin and democrat/MSM responses.

911 happens. Democrats/MSM response: How could you let this happen? You didn’t connect the dots on intelligence.

Bush admin: we need to connect our intelligence to prevent this from happening again. Setup homeland security. Tap al queda phones and bank accounts. Find out what they’re doing. Democrats/MSM response: Taking away our freedoms! Fascists!

Bush admin: we need to use harsh techniques to get information out of captured al queda jihadists. Get lawyers to tell us what are the legal limits. Inform Congress what we are doing. Then use what everyone agrees is allowable to prevent another 911 type attack. Democrat/MSM response: You tortured! We never knew! All our Euro friends hate us! The CIA lied to us.

Bush admin: We prevented another 911 for eight years. Democrat/MSM response: So what? Who cares?

Best thing about having Panetta as DCI is that he is as left wing as Pelosi, so he can’t be accused of being a water carrier for the right.

No doubt he would prefer his own handpicked Speaker, not someone who got the job without his help and who owes him nothing. That's why Obama has not weighed in on this--he's letting Nancy hang herself (with a little help from his friends). 'Rat infighting.

No offense but please -- no "Truth Commission" terminology or use. That's just too communistic. And Barry's leading the USA to socialism fast enough as it is.

Plus, any "Commission" will be a setup like the '9-11 Commission' was. It will be filled with rats that will be sitting in judgment when they should be testifying, i.e.: Jamie Gorelick.

I don’t buy the theory that SanFranNan is under assault from the left. I think it was just clumsiness, inexperience and the need to “do something, anything” that lead The Kenyan to start this ball rolling. That SFNan was rolled can be explained with the Theory of Unintended Consequences.

Nancy has now made the Clintoonians angry with her as well as being an embarrassment for the great 0b0z0.

On Sept. 4, 2002, less than a year after 9/11, the CIA briefed Rep. Porter Goss, then House Intelligence Committee chairman, and Mrs. Pelosi, then the committee’s ranking Democrat, on EITs including water boarding. They were the first members of Congress to be informed.

So, who was the director of the CIA, from 9/11 to 2004?

George J. Tenet was the Director of CIA, from 1997–2004 .

Tenet was appointed by President Clinton and approved by Congress. Tenet then became the CIA director in August of 1997.

So, Pelosi is now saying that George Tenet lied to her or ordered his congressional briefers to lie to Nancy.

Tenet and Penatta where Clintoonian people and worked with Rhombo.

Pelosi has put herself in a very dangerous situation with her stupid and vile mouth.
