Republicans: Nancy Pelosi Could Have Objected

Why didn’t Nancy Pelosi do more to stop waterboarding?

With the “what did she know and when did she know it” questions more or less resolved — Pelosi learned that the Bush administration was waterboarding detainees no later than February 2003 — Republicans are now directing their attacks on the muted, indirect way in which she responded.

On Tuesday, GOP leaders openly scoffed at Pelosi’s claim she was prevented from opposing the policy six years ago because the briefings were classified.

“If she felt it was wrong, she should have acted,” Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a longtime waterboarding critic, told POLITICO on Tuesday. “Let me just tell you, I was briefed on it — and I vehemently objected to it. We did the Detainee Treatment Act, which prohibited cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.”

McCain, who drew criticism from the left for opposing a Democratic waterboarding ban last year, added, “I’m sure she has her argument, and we’ll see if the American people agree.”

Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly dismissed such criticism as “Republican attempts to create a distraction” from their own culpability on interrogation. Over the past week, a half-dozen senior Republican and Democratic aides canvassed by POLITICO have outlined a menu of options Pelosi could have pursued to protest harsh interrogations.

Nazi (No Oil For YOU!) Pelosi was “the most powerful woman in America” for the last two years of W. She has no leg to stand on. What a joke she is.

Let’s just get off topic here. She LIED and said she didn’t know waterboarding was being used, not that she just didn’t act. Republicans need to go after the lie.

THAT'S the best she's GOT!!???? Queen 9% Pelousy is going down if she and her staff of liars and prevaricators can't come up with something better than that; that excuse is almost as weak as "the briefings were classified and they wouldn't let me attend!"

Cry me a river, Nan.

I think this issue may be a bit more complicated than people think. Steny Hoyer (next in line to be Speaker) hates Pelosi and his office came out recently against Pelosi. Hoyer wants Pelosi’s job.

” I think this issue may be a bit more complicated than people think?”

Not complicated at all...the Gelding Old Party just needs to get a testicle & spine implant before next year so that the GOP can begin to take back the Majority. And then Pelousy & Hoyer will be as consequential as a fly on an elephant's rear. And hopefully, “if” & “when” the GOP does regain the Majority, they'll do a better job of LEADERSHIP than they did the last time!

The thing that gets me the most is that these people, led by Pelosi, used the “waterboarding and torture” issue against GWB and his administration almost on a daily basis. Could she have spoken up in his defense for the sake of this country?

Well, Pelousy is having a presser NOW and saying that in the 2002 CIA briefing she was told that “waterboarding” was NOT being used...

Hey, Pelousy, ya don’t wanna lie about what was told ‘cause the CIA keeps VERY GOOD NOTES!

She’s on live now- giving a press conference.

Her tone....is extremely sober and quiet.

She’s squirming...trying to explain why she didn’t formally object.
