...that said, I do believe that Russia (Putin) would dearly love to gain a strong measure of control over ME oil and gas as part a new energy cartel that together with the massive energy supplies of Russia would give control of two-thirds of the world's proven reserves - thus being able to chargevery high prices to the EU and US that are so dependent on imports of both oil and gas.
Ezk 38
6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?
We could FIX all our electric problems by going nuke. No need for wind, dams, coal, oil or gas. Build enough nuke plants and that could power the country, forever.
Islam and oil.... the magical ingredients that lead to the end times events...
I’m certain once we have solar on every rooftop and windmills in the back yards, we’ll be just fine...hehehe
As long as DemoRats are in control, there will NEVER be a realistic energy policy to develop true petroleum independence for America. This also includes the building of nuke plants for electricity, the cheapest method known to man.
We are TOTALLY VULNERABLE to world energy domination by our enemies — yes, all those people our government panders to.
Until we have a government that cares about our national security and energy independence, the situation represents a CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER to America. The Marxists do not care. They would rule over the ashes of America, if that kept them in power.
Well, I’m looking for us to tap into zero-point energy to cure all our problems... :-)
Only it's not Governments doing the fighting - the Governments fade away - it's the Corporations doing the ruling and fighting.
I'm with you. See post 10.
Right on, as we did with Japan in '41, then Germany; then Germany's "dialogue" with Russia; China with Japan ad infinitum.
The image of Chamberlain holding his worthless piece of paper fluttering in the breeze is enough to make one puke, and good conservatives knew it at the time.
Thorium Breeders!! End of problem
Energy can lead to wars? I’ve been saying this for years ever since the disastrous Carter administration. That is why we need to debelop a comprehensive energy plan which also includes building and leasing more oil refineries, more offshore drilling for oil and building and leasing many more nuclear power plants in addition to alternative energy possibilities such as hydrogen powered, wind, solar, clean coal and geothermal.
Russia may be signaling intent to conquer its neighbors, especially Khazakstan and maybe even Iran. Russia has been dreaming about Iran for centuries and used to rule Khazakstan.
If our leaders were on our side we could do that. Even Republicans, when in power, refuse to do it.
France’s next gen 1.6 GW reactor in Finland has overrun from 3 billion euros, to 4.5 billion. Assuming that the cost for successive plants falls to 3 billion euros, that’s ~$2500 USD per kilowatt. That is with a light water reactor. Breeder reactors are complicated (which usually translates to expensive).
Wind ~1300 USD per kW for peak capacity (which is 30% of the time in good places onshore) with standard wind turbines. The standard gearbox wind turbines have been having more problems than expected... The Enercon wind turbines that cost more, ~1800??? USD per kW might last longer than 20 years (there are some that are reaching 15 years). Wind turbines cost very little to operate. If the lifespan of those Enercon turbines is high, wind could be quite attractive. Yes, wind is unpredictable, and not enough to power our society but it might be cheap.
Recent developments in thin film solar cells have brought about <$1/watt at peak solar capacity. So, in places like Arizona, that’s analogous to $5000 per kW. Of course, that assumes there is enough Indium on earth. Graphite or nanotubes might substitute, but it has yet to be proven.
In short, I think in the right locations, wind and solar cost less than breeder reactors.
We have depending on how you calculate it we have a couple hundred years of fuel laying around in various forms.

I was refering to the Thorium Breeder Reactors.
