I disagree completely with the Rats’ plan, but I understand why they would tax something considered unhealthy and high calorie. They figure unhealthy and/or high calorie foods/beverages add more weight which may lead to obesity and problems associated with that. That in turn means the government will have to pay more for health care.
They are attacking the wrong end of the problem, if gov didn't have their nose in health care to begin with, no new taxes would be needed.
With the govt. deciding who gets what care and when...the lowly people, and those who smoke or drink, or who have no jobs, or no worth to the govt., or who are old and and receiving social security will be the last in line for health care to get any life-saving treatments. Soon, all those will die off...and they will have fewer smoking, drinking, old or seriously ill people to take care of.
In the meantime, Obama's other plan is to also kill all unwanted babies by govt. decree and funds. You know, once the govt. funds anything, they start to make the decisions. Eventually the govt. will pick who has children, who does not, how many, etc. Again, fewer kids who might live on the dole and require health care.
Bottom line - the surviving citizens will keep paying the higher and higher taxes, there will be fewer people...and the government continually gets more money and more powerful to control and spend as they want. Sound familiar?
First off, there are numerous studies that indicate people drink a diet soda in order to *save calories* and thus allow themselves an additional Big Mac, double the fries, four tacos instead of two, etc. If they are going to tax soda based on the idea it is a obesity-inducing product, they ought to include taxing diet soda as well.
But the logic is faulty -- not EVERYONE who drinks what someone with an agenda considers *unhealthy* increases his weight, causes a health burden to taxpayers. Not EVERYONE who eats high calorie food has difficulty. Why are they limiting the sugar-consumption to soda, why not cookies/Hostess cakes/candy? Are we to tax eggs then, the cholesterol problem they are said to cause some? Butter next, whole milk?
The thing about a soda tax, it does not strike at the adults in this nation, children of all ages purchase canned/bottled soft drinks every day.
That in turn means the government will have to pay more for health care.
Not in a nation where FREEDOM rules, Government isn't to be paying for this service, the individual does. Because too many people have bought into the fallacy that the federal government ought to be paying for health services, once more, FREEDOM is being tossed.
Error in logic...the government should not pay for ANY healthcare except for its employees and the military. Healthcare is not a right or an entitlement, it is something you negotiate for with an employer or pay for yourself.
By your reasoning, once the government controls health care, they will have an excuse to control every detail of our lives, because it all affects our ‘health’ in a tenuous indirect way.
They figure unhealthy and/or high calorie foods/beverages add more weight which may lead to obesity and problems associated with that.
LOL!! In fact, ROTFLMAO!
What they “figure” is that they see another way to grab money via another niche tax!
Pretty soon they will be taxing you for breathing and I am not kidding.
Just think how healthy and natural the planet would be without all of these human parasites infesting it.
believe it or not, its the skinny older women who suffer from hip fractures...and develop curvatures of their spines.......
we might as well mandate that no tv or radio after 12midnight because lack of sleep affects your health greatly.......geesh..
where does it end.....we'll be like Brave New World very soon..
