I've long noticed, and tried to change that very thing. In a few cases I was successful - in one instance, very. One lady talker really went after it in 1980 - and brought in a host of new people that helped mightily to turn the state party around and get them back on the right track. It was a war, but the good-guys won... big.
BTTT!
bump for later read
Oh? When was that? During Reagan's terms? Was that too conservative for you?
What we have seen since Bush 1 is too few conservatives. Too few to stand and fight where it counts. Too few who really want to do battle.
Pssst... Reagan’s dead.
Except in those instances where the people don't give a hoot who gains elected office. That is, they don't care who gets elected at the lowest level of the party.
Your point then, is my point. But, it is up to us at the local level to make sure we have principled and competent people at these lowest-level offices.
Thankfully, many freepers ARE moving that way... but, more need to know that they can effectively fight the principled battle near where they live.
No - it's not about the party. That is just the vehicle. It is about who rides in the vehicle.
I would like to kick democrat butt. Why is that not in the title?
Your problem isn’t who is riding in the vehicle. It’s who has their hands firmly in control of the wheel. And it ain’t principled conservatives, I can tell you that.
It would be helpful to those new to political activism if those in the know would actually lay out specific strategies on how to reclaim the party.
Principled conservatives support reparations for slavery?
You're quite correct. A liberal GOP candidate will lose, and damned rightfully so... and by (hopefully) a wide margin.
BUT - that is no reason whatsoever to walk off the battlefield. What you speak of is the Presidential election, but there are tens of thousands of elections below that big one - all of which are just as important, and in many respects MORE important.
The foundation has to be maintained. If it is not, the structure is unsound, there are too few principled and competent people to rise to important intermediate offices.
I saw Reagan rise from the bottom, in a liberal state - to become Governor, then President. That took a lot of people at the bottom to pull off. I was there, and saw how many. Not surprisingly, there were many conservative Dems and Indy's involved. It took a strong state GOP party across the state - populated in every district by dedicated conservatives.
Yes - the 'establishment' (meaning the RNC and sitting legislators) can upset state GOP candidates with donor money.
Don't EVER send a dime to the RNC... or any other GOP fund. Put your money in local races, and push true conservatives for local office. Almost ALWAYS keep your money local - until you see the best of the best running for national office.
Don't even send money to your state GOP. Keep it local, or use it local - in your own district, where you can dictate how it is used, and for what purpose.
No, they don’t.
If you’re referring to Dr. Keyes, he doesn’t support reparations. Never has. He has spoken out against them for decades.
You really shouldn’t buy into the Alinskyite talking points of the Obama campaign and their IL Republican RINO allies.
See post 75.
Your party is an open association. You have no say over who is in your party, intrinsically.
It's as if you lived in a big house on the edge of skid row, one in which you had a big sign in the front yard saying, "Anyone who wants can live here!"
How long do you think you'd want to live in your own house?
The very nature of the way the Republican Party is constructed made its demise inevitable. It took me many years to figure this out, but once I did figure it out, the choices about what to do about it became very clear.
You won't regret it. You will be 'lost' for a while, before you understand how things work, and while you are learning Roberts Rules of Order. But, it does not take that to know a turkey when you see one. Principles are principles, and you'll have an effect.
If you do attend your local district meetings, tell me about it. Nay - tell FR about it... give us a report. We would all love it.
“Just as sure as there is no god, conservatives will never unite under one banner again.”
Since there IS a God, and He is real, I am sure that we will unite once again.
Peace.
