They have been vilified on message boards and called greedy speculators, criminals and vultures. President Obama says he "does not stand with them." They have received death threats. They're the hedge funds opposed to the Chrysler reorganization, who desperately tried to keep their identities secret to all but the federal bankruptcy court judge overseeing the case.
But the judge, Arthur Gonzalez, isn't buying it. Tuesday, he ruled that the group had until 10 a.m. Wednesday to reveal their identities. The group, which describes itself as the group of creditors that did not have to take federal bailout money under the Troubled Asset Relief program, is trying to block the Obama administration's proposed reorganization of Chrysler.
In court documents Tuesday, attorneys for the so-called "non-TARP" creditors, who own $300 million of secured debt, said intensifying pressure and name calling by the government threatened to harm them if their identities became public.
The Chrysler non-TARP lenders are afraid," the court documents say. They cannot argue against the proposed bankruptcy "if that means being subjected to heavy-handed tactics that will threaten their business and safety."

Did Don Zero lean on the judge?
Bankruptcy files are public records. Sealing these guys’ identities would be highly, highly unusual. I don’t read anything into this decision.
No? You wanna keep it up? Well, this government will just go ahead and slander you as well. We'll tell the whole world who the greedy SOBs are that caused all of this. Go ahead, keep it up, Hedgefund Guy. You ever hear of the I-R-S?
I agree with you, BTW. It does amaze me though. Americans in growing numbers are afraid of our government....and apparently for some good reason.
(sigh)
Ouch. Makes me kind of miss Bill Clinton....shudder.
This brownshirt stuff had better stop and awfully go**amned fast.

Creditors to Chrysler describe negotiations with the company and the Obama administration as a farce, saying the administration was bent on forcing their hands using hardball tactics and threats.
Conversations with administration officials left them expecting that they would be politically targeted, two participants in the negotiations said.
The sources, who represent creditors to Chrysler, say were taken aback by the hardball tactics that the Obama administration employed to cajole them into acquiescing to plans to restructure Chrysler. One person said described the administration as the most shocking end justifies the means group they have ever encountered. Another characterized Obama was the most dangerous smooth talker on the planet- and I knew Kissinger. Both were voters for Obama in the last election.
One participant in negotiations said that the administrations tactic was to present what one described as a madman theory of the presidency in which the President is someone to be feared because he was willing to do anything to get his way. The person said this threat was taken very seriously by his firm.
Only those who anger The Leader by not placing the interests of The Fatherland ahead of their own need be fearful.
Seriously, though, you are right and it is very disturbing. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Zero express anger at the Chrysler holdouts. That's a private business negotiation in which government should have no role.
Agreed-You can’t have nameless parties in court records unless there is a very compelling reason such as nat’l security or minor or sex crime or the like. As much as these people may actually be threatened, w/o concrete proof of immediate danger, this was probably the correct ruling.
Like right out of Atlas Shrugged. Amazing.
I'll bet "greedy speculators" pay a whole heck of a lot in TAXES....or they did....payback is gonna be a b*tch
Besides, if they are dead they can't spend the money.
Are the bond holders planning a class action suit?
The ACORN buses are warming up.
I was thinking the same thing.
I recall in the 70’s the Steelworkers trying to organize a local plant identified the leaders of the anti-union workers and then the threats started, with flat tires, burning or barns and out buildings, ball bearings shot from sling shots damaging windshields, etc.
It is part of organized labor's DNA.
