If the disaffected Republicans (typically, conservatives) and disaffected Democrats (typically, conservatives/Reagan democrats) could get away from their party affiliation/identification and unite, they would have greater numbers than the lib-Democrats or mod-Republicans.

Until they do -- they will just continue to be disaffected.

Heck. After 29 years of being a registered Republican, *I* even considered re-registering as an Indie. The ONLY thing that has stopped me is that I heard that Indies were barraged with phone calls from the 0bummer campaign last year.

Are you sure those aren’t RINOs abandoning a ship where they no longer feel welcome? Do you have any survey data to back up your assertion or are you just guessing about who’s jumping ship?
