Former governors Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush joined Congressman Eric Cantor to talk health care, the economy and national security at the first town hall meeting for the National Council for a New America on Saturday. But the group steered clear of abortion and same-sex marriage -- wedge issues that have led to the defection of moderates and independents.
"Listening to people can make a difference. We've got ideas on how we can help people get health insurance, how we can improve our schools, how we can make our economy strong today as well as down the road, how we can reform entitlements -- these are the people of America that have these ideas," Romney said. "We want to share these ideas with one another, and make sure that we're laying out a vision and a plan for America that makes our lives and the lives of our kids better."
Romney lost the Republican presidential primary to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the 2008 election. Since President Obama's election, the Republicans have come under danger of being locked into a filibuster-proof Senate.
Romney said that the focus needs to be return to the American people, rather than elected officials.
"America is great because of the American people, and the skill and ingenuity and entrepreneurship of America. That's what we happen to believe," Romney said of himself, Congressman Eric Cantor and former governor Jeb Bush. "I happen to think right now with regards to our economy, that we're risking doing the very thing to our economy that government did to our housing market. And that is borrow so much money that you create a bubble that ultimately collapses."
The first story out about this event.
They need to re-listen to Rush at CPAC. Two or three times perhaps.
I don’t mind this, as long as conservatives compete toe-to-toe with this group, that has quite a bit of moderates. We could say that conservatives got the ball rolling with the tea-parties and now some of the moderates are doing the same. I do appreciate competition and debate.
I love your outlook there.
We will never control the government again as long as we try to be “Liberal Lite”.
This nation has consistently polled 64% conservative or somewhat conservative for years and years.
Republicans must return to Conservatism. These three men don’t “get it”.
Screw Romney and his little dog Jeb.
Regarding "independents" defecting from the Republican party, it is with certainty that the writer is too stupid to pour pi$$ out of a pot.
Independents, by definition, are NOT REPUBLICANS anyway.
What this means is we don't really know what went on at this meeting.
When the GOP turned their backs on the Right to Life, and condoned same sex marriage is when it lost it’s backbone - the conservative sector. We now have only one political party in America, and if Romney and Bush are on that planning committee, they are part of the problem, not the solution.
You changed the title
I DID NOT change the title.
I posted it as it was on the article — FR rules.
Someone else changed the title.
Funny, the title wasn’t changed on another post for the exact same article:

See #8, that may give you a clue as to who changed your title.
Yeah that title is definitely not something you would have typed lol
The new title is PERFECT!
Lotta times I disagree with you, but I'm with you on this.
(But it's ever so depressing that I can't see a good-lookin prospect out there).
Indeed, especially when it involves more people than the one mentioned in the title. It’s a GROUP effort.
