Since then, Romney and his family decided "we can believe as we want, but we will not force our beliefs on others on that matter."

This is NO DIFFERENT from Mario Cuomo's "personally opposed" or Clinton's "safe and legal and rare" statements.

Abortion IS murder and NOBODY who believes that would ever dream of saying that they won't force their anti-murder beliefs on others.

**********************

Agreed. I hope that Romney and his family eventually come to that realization. It's a big step, but I suspect that they know it is the right one. Somewhere, in the back of their minds they must feel the lack of truth and logic in their position.

As Michael Medved points out the Republicans were never really a third party, the Whigs they replaced was only 23 years old when it disappeared in 1856.

” They were organized on February 28, 1854, held their first convention on July 6, and elected forty-four Representatives and fifteen Senators in November (19% of the House; 25% of the Senate)*. In the 1854 and ‘58 elections, with the help of some other parties, they denied majority control of the House to the Democrats. They unsuccessfully ran John Fremont for President in 1856. When they elected Lincoln as President in 1860, they took majority control of the House and the Senate. By the time Lincoln began his first term as President, the party was in place and in power.”

Great find, greyfoxx39. That link:
"Bain Capital, Founded by Romney, Buys Clear Channel"
explains why some talk show hosts were bought off, or felt that they HAD, to say
something positive about backstabber, socialist, and fabricator, Mitt Romney.

What a scurrilous POS Romney has been; buying all his votes
and then throwing Election2008 in a Romney-hissy-fit.

“I truly believe the wing of conservatism represented here on FR was responsible for destroying Romney from within the party”

I disagree. The wing of conservatism represented on FR is the same one espoused by the people you mentioned (Rick Santorum, Paul Weyrich, Levin, Hewitt, Ann Coulter, Bob Jones III, James Dobson). And they all supported Romney.

There was a poll taken here a day before Super Tuesday and Romney won with 75% of the votes. He is presently the most viable conservative candidate. The candidates standing to his right could not manage to win even a single primary.

Romney’s challenge now is to win over the idiots who nominated McCain. You won’t find many of those around here.

“Since the election, he’s gone totally off the conservative ranch”

Nonsense. Don’t believe what you read in liberal rags.

It’s also worth noting that the Whigs collapsed in much the same way the GOP is collapsing today.

It is a hard thing to find out. Although I suspect if he had been stripped of his “recommend” we would have heard about it. Once you get one, it is kinda hard to lose.

The FR poll you cite has Myth up against Paul, McCain and Huckabee, OF COURSE he was going to win with those four choices.

All of Palin's positions HAVE to be taken in the context of Alaska, which is an enormous state geographically, with its population of mostly working class people and Natives scattered across a wide variety of small rural towns and villages out in the boonies. Most of those folks have only high school educations or none at all, and home schooling of children, as done in the lower 48 states, simply is not that feasible for most Alaskan households.

Homeschooling works very well for families that are isolated in rural areas, which is why many families in Alaska DO homeschool. The "first dude" reportedly was homeschooled, and Palin's daughter's ex-fiance was "homeschooled". The state of Alaska even funds home study programs. (Of course, when the state funds it, it's really public-school-at-home.)

The federal government spends more per capita in Alaska than any other state, as it always has. Federal education spending there exceeds $2,000/per student (whereas it averages around $600/student in the other states). Check the Tax Foundation website for a source.

But, for the record, I wasn't even commenting on her record in Alaska. As VP candidate, she spoke in favor of increased funding for public schools. So, she supported it nationwide. Again, that's why it's difficult for me to support her. She also is on record opposing school vouchers, not because she favors more free market in the education business, but because she favors a public school system. Then again, that position could attract some crossover Democrat voters in 2012. In any case, I'd prefer any Republican over a Democrat. I just wish more Republican candidates would embrace free market principles.

LOL...

A bit misleading (surprise surprise)

Try going back a bit, to the time there were real conservatives left in the race and Mitt was scoring 13 to 15 percent against Fred and Duncan.

Against McCain and Huck even Mitt looks acceptable.

Lurkers, beware -- Barnacle Centurion has a longstanding record of totally misrepresenting Rush's words regarding Romney. He LIES. If you want proof, let me know -- I've got enough postings in the past to demonstrate the blatant falsehoods that Barnacle has posted regarding Rush's take on Romney.

BarnacleCenturion more so than anyone else at FR seems to be here as a professional to promote Romney, and his dishonesty is legion.

My two favorites of his are the time he tried to counter the information from massresistance about Mitt Romney and his pro homosexual positions and desire to fully open the military to them by instructing everyone that massresistance was a pro-Obama blog not knowing that people here know better.

The second one was when he tried to counter the fact that no Romney man has ever served the United States military in uniform by posting a biography of a General Romney, luckily I found a picture of the BLACK General. Barnacle doesn't even get embarrassed when called on things like this which is another sign that he is here as a man on a mission.

Romney was by far the strongest and yes, most conservative and articulate, of the Republican presidential candidates in 2008.

Which is why Romney was supported by 95% of the thinking ultra conservatives in America, like Rick Santorum, Paul Weyrich, Levin, Hewitt, Ann Coulter, Bob Jones III, James Dobson, even Limbaugh supported Romney although he stuck to his vow not to “endorse.”
- - - - - - - - - - - - -

ROFL. Romney is the farthest thing from a conservative.

I am not sure why they supported Romney in any way. Some I would not even really call endorsements. In any case, I lost a lot of respect for those people for rolling over and giving Mitt any support whatsoever.

Stuff it! deary...

"This shows how empty headed some really are!"

...THIS shows how brainwashed some mittbots really are! If you think any amount of butt-kissing would influence Obama towards Sean and Rush, there isn't enough sense in your head to even rattle.

It’s also worth noting that the Whigs collapsed in much the same way the GOP is collapsing today.

I don't see any such thing, there is no similarity between the Whigs that died out after 23 years of existence and were instantly replaced by the Republican party and anything that is happening today.
