It all went downhill from when Bush started apologetically talking about “compassionate conservatism”. Conservatism IS compassionate, period. That is, if you believe in the blessings of individual freedom and responsibility.

George Orwell had a saying, “No jam( jelly ) today, Jam tomorrow”.

What he meant was socialists, communist, thieves were always robbing today, and promising sweets, paradise, utopia in the future.

Bush basically said, “No free market today, free market next year..or a decade or two down the road. Maybe. If conditions allow. Meanwhile, STFU and hand over the money and hold this debt paper and make sure your kids pay it off. Signed, GW Bush.”

Chrysler and GM should never have taken federal funds...and we can all blame Bush for that.

We can blame him for offering them, perhaps, but we cannot blame Bush because Chrysler and GM took federal funds.

Sorry to hear that. Some Pontiac models are very popular and well-built, most notably the G-6, which I drive now.

I'm sorry too.

The first car I owned that actually filled me with pride was a 1960 Pontiac Bonneville with all the extras. (Had been a Chevvy owner to that point). Drove it all over the United States, Mexico and Canada. Even drove that low slung car to the top of the Nevado de Toluca, a nightmarish trip at best.

It got a full 9 mpg. But what the heck, gas was cheap.

The UAW will blame “greedy executives and capitalists”. The UAW is to blame for their own greed and bleeding dry the auto companies.

Bingo!

It's kind of like blaming all the mortgage woes in this country on the lenders and none on the home buyers who knew they couldn't afford a $300K house on a $40K/yr. salary.

MY CONCERN: Will ford even be ALLOWED to compete??

When GM’s gub’ment mandated Volga’s and Yugo’s don’t sell, will Ford be REQUIRED by Obama to go out of Business, to save the Government-run Company???

They tried that with the Soviet Union, dismal failure. Had to give the crap away to politburo appointees.

“Obama campaigned on saving their jobs. Another broken promise. I’m sure they’ll all vote for him again though.”

Democrats never know when to quit. They’ll vote for him because now he will promise them unending welfare.

Ford has over 50% of their business offshore. So they may just make it. But the Ford pickup is one of the most prolific cars around, they will likely last as long as cockroaches.

So they may just leave the USA. Ford's most modern new plant is in Brazil.

JD Power’s ratings are skewed by the type of BUYER each car has...

A Honda, Lexus, or Buick buyer is likely to maintain, or even OVER-MAINTAIN, thier car.

A Hyundai, or any other cheap car buyer, is likely to go down the street if it’s $10 cheaper, then complain about the pice of crap they bought, when the wheels lock up at 60K, because they have done ZERO maintenance to the car.

It’s a HUGE part of the reason that Hyundai offers such good warranty coverage, because they realized this early on.

The Unions and DNC have finally got what they have wanted for 30 yrs, death of the Auto Industry.

The unions never wanted the death of the auto industry - it was too big of a cash cow and breeding ground for future democrats for that. They foolishly thought that the old familiar circle of ever-increasing wage and benefit packages would simply go on forever.

It didn't.

They ignored the fact that the more they sucked out of the company, the less profitable it would become and at some point GM would jump from the black into the red, and look where their greed got them - thousands upon thousands of jobs lost forever, and the humbling of a once great company.

The unions killed GM with blind greed, nothing more.
