General who probed Abu Ghraib says Bush officials committed war crimes
The News Observer (McClatchy) ^ | 4/23/09 | Warren P. Strobel

WASHINGTON — The Army general who led the investigation into prisoner abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison accused the Bush administration Wednesday of committing "war crimes" and called for those responsible to be held to account. The remarks by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba, who's now retired, came in a new report that found that U.S. personnel tortured and abused detainees in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, using beatings, electrical shocks, sexual humiliation and other cruel practices.

"After years of disclosures by government investigations, media accounts and reports from human rights organizations, there is no longer any doubt as to whether the current administration has committed war crimes," Taguba wrote. "The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account."

Taguba, whose 2004 investigation documented chilling abuses at Abu Ghraib, is thought to be the most senior official to have accused the administration of war crimes. "The commander in chief and those under him authorized a systematic regime of torture," he wrote.

A White House spokeswoman, Kate Starr, had no comment.

Taguba didn't respond to a request for further comment relayed via a spokesman.

That and I’m afraid Pakistan is getting so out of control that the masses have to be distracted with this type of BS. This is nothing more than Axelrod and Emanuel keeping some other type of catastrophe out of the press, such as that Mexican virus that is getting out of control and killing hundreds of people. Where is THAT in the media??

What is wrong with this guy that it is so necessary to undercut our nation while at war?

Love your tagline. And I never say that. :)

A show trial will reveal Obama and his blood leeching vampire moonbats for what they are: bloodthirsty. But the blood they seek is American.

The American people will be against this and then they will become angry and against it.

So I say bring it. I even say it to the moonbats who tramp over to the Politico (WAPO) from Huffpoo, DU(h) and Koz Kidz.

They go absolutely mental. You needn’t so much factually for them to go ballistic. Most of it is childish namecalling but dissent is not something they can handle.

If true, the general is complicit in the cover-up

Interesting background on General Taguba. It appears he's pushing for a commission to investigate any "abuses". Abu Ghraib investigator Antonio Taguba talks to Salon about why he backs a commission to examine Bush torture policies.

When the policymakers create a policy, you have to account yourself for the consequences unintended or intended. The question we ought to ask these civilian authorities is, What was your intent in creating those illegal policies? What was the intent? Was the intent in the interest of national security, which is broad and contestable? What was the intent and what were the lawful precedents, if any, that led them to these highly questionable opinions?

Real objective isn't he? Define the policymakers wrongly as lawbreakers, then ask them how they could justify it. I suppose we'll see him on the hangin' commission. He's a shoe in.

chilling abuses at Abu Ghraib

Like making them wear panties on their heads?

What unmittigated Bravo Sierra. So, we were making them wear panties on their heads while they were sawing off American heads on film.

People like this need to retire and fade away into some assisted living center or into senility.

If we had fought World War II like we are fighting this war, we would all be goose stepping now, or would all be chatel slave of the Japanese Imperialists.

Speaking of generals and Abu Ghraib...

Former Abu Ghraib Brigadier General, Janis Karpinski, is an endorser of left-wing extremist movement

What a bastard, the enemy within is not looking for his 15 minutes of fame. Sickening this country has become.

“McCain: Japanese Hanged For Waterboarding”

It’s hard to put a good gloss on endorsing waterboarding when we hanged Japanese scum for torturing US soldiers with it. Also it puts us in the same category as Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia.

Not the kind of company we want to keep.

If Obama continues down the path he's currently on -- and there's no evidence that a leftist (that's a COMMUNIST for you government school folks) -- what happened in Abu Ghraib, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay will pale to what he has planned for those who opposed him before he gained the TOTAL power for which he lusts.
Photobucket

But, by then, just as it was with Hitler in the late 30's, it will be too late to stop him.

JUST WHAT PART OF THIS GUY'S AGENDA DON'T HIS WORSHIPPERS UNDERSTAND?

Belated thanks for your post. We are retired Navy but did a stint at Army War College and thus are in solidarity with our Army brethren. It’s always good to know the REAL story abt some of these betrayers - there’s always some ulterior motive - we love to give the “real poop” on Congressman Sestak from PA - he is a joke to everyone in the Navy who knew him and only ran for Congress because he couldn’t get hired on the outside and wanted to make ADM Mullen’s life miserable for rightly demoting him from three star to two star and then kicking him out...thanks again for the inside gauge - sounds familiar...

It used to be, when an American was outside the U.S. and was thrown in jail with no trial and no rights and was being abused, he could say, with some righteousness, “You can’t treat me like this, I’m an American.” Rings a little hollow now.

“before Obama gained the TOTAL power for which he lusts...”

According to the Bush/Cheney administration, the President has the power to imprison anyone he considers to be a terrorist, and that person has no right to learn the evidence or even the specific charges against him, to confront witnesses, to have a lawyer, AND, that person can be locked up so long as the President considers him to be a threat.

How many people complained then, when the President claimed that power? Does it seem a little scarier now? That’s why constitutions have to be followed all the time, not just when the dems are in power.
