WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House on Thursday said it did not support creation of an independent panel to investigate the Bush administration's harsh interrogations of terror suspects.

"Something like this would likely just become a political back-and-forth," presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters. "We're all best suited looking forward."

playing politics with national security is not very smart

That may be sinking in after the fiasco of the last three days.

Today's editorial in the Wall Street Journal was very sharp, downright harsh. I don't remember seeing anything like it during the Clinton years. It was definitely a sign the call to arms had gone out through the Republican Party and among conservatives that a battle royal had to be prepared.

I wonder if they also questioned if they could hold the MSM. A lot of them still remember their prosecutor who was supposed to put Rove and Cheney in jail failed at that and one of the two people he put in jail was a reporter.
