That "Rightwing Extremism" Report
Liberty and Power at the History News Network ^ | April 21, 2009 | Lester Hunt

Posted on 04/21/2009 9:22:02 AM PDT by Captain Kirk

Dear Republicans, Do you regret creating the Department of Homeland Security yet? Are you ready to apologize?

That's the first thing I thought when I read that DHS report. Like an earlier report from the Missouri Information Analysis Center report that instructed law enforcement personnel to watch for cars with Ron Paul or Libertarian Party stickers, it has the right in something of an uproar.

As you may know, the report warns law enforcement agencies that there "may" be a rebirth of right wing violence. It warns, among other things, that returning veterans could be turning violent. Another passage that has attracted unfavorable notice is this one:

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

As others have said, this means there are an awful lot of potential terrorists out there. Aside from the fact that these people are casting their net way too widely, I am not as stunned by this development as many others are, for two reasons.

First, I hate to say this, but the general idea behind the report -- that there is a substantial possibility of right-wing violence in our future -- is probably true. I predicted it almost half a year ago:

Obama's party will not only control the White House but both houses of Congress. I don't expect them to be magnanimous in victory. They have suffered (how they have suffered!) eight years of not getting their way,

I regretted the DHS the day it was formed.

But, of course, I am not a Republican.

I don’t know about republicans, but as a conservative I’m ALWAYS against forming a new “U.S. Department of ANYTHING!”

At the time, everyone thought this was the only way to force “the agencies” to communicate, since they’re so rife with leftist moles and America haters.

If your with the FBI and reading this, F@ck off!

No need to chase the "fibi"s away. They really need to know they are not universally loved, particularly by those they've let down.

Yup, the FBI has demonstrated a level of incompetence in recent years to defy all imagination.

Not in the slightest (though the name itself causes me to cringe... couldn't they have used "domestic" instead of "homeland"?).

Consolidating parts of the security apparatus that weren't working together was a smart move. The fact is, people like Obama, Pelosi, the Clintons, and their ilk will misuse any agency. What's the difference over whether it's called FBI or DHS? In either case, it an equal abuse of power and would have happened regardless of what name(s) the agency or agencies involved are called.

When was there a “birth” of right wing violence?? Did I miss this lesson in history class, or is this from history that wasn’t invented yet when I went to school??

Right on, RaceBannon!

The DHS is a TOOL, like a gun is a tool. The problem isn’t the TOOL, it’s when the tool gets into the hands of irresponsible children.

My question has always been - "Why do we need the Department of Homeland Security when we have The Department of Defense?"

I'm pretty sure the following was meant to be serious...

Charging the 2000 presidential election was 'rigged', the DUmmies swore they were not going to allow it to happen again in 2004 (Kerry defeated like Al Gore in 2000). Bold-type emphasis added by myself.-etl

16. Yes, spread the word, even if you *didn't* read it, that there *will* be riots! Yes! Riots, and a whole lot more!..."

Democratic Underground blogger ("happyslug": 1000+ posts) responds...

"if it is decided to fight, be prepared to fight, bring a backpack, entrenching tool, tent, and other equipment of an Infantrymen. You will need it for Bush and his supporters decides it is better to fight than to accept the will of the people, the fight to overthrow them will be a long fight."

"...it takes three things to overthrow a tyrant;...

1. Popular support, you must have the majority of the people on your side (i.e. Democracy, even the Communists and Islamics both try to show they have the Support of the Majority of the People),

2. Organization to perform the overthrow (This is why Madison wrote the First like he did, these are HOW you organize an opposition. Without the First it is hard to organize an opposition and any resistence organized in absence of the rights stated in the First tend to be as tyrannical as what you are opposing)

3. Weapons to push the issue if the leadership that is being overthrown tries to use force to stay in power. You have to be willing to answer force with force. Weapons do not overthrow a tyrant, weapons just protect the people who are overthrowing a tyrant."

"Now, you may say "Hay, you are talking about Islamic and/or Communists groups not 'Western Liberal resistence groups'". And you would be correct. As I said in the beginning the first step in a guerilla war against a tyrant is to first organize. The Islamic and Communists Groups were the best at organizing people. "Western Liberal Resistence Groups" were less effective in organizing resistence groups (And less liked by the CIA and KGB who tended to fund these groups, remember any war is expensive, money talks).

Furthermore since most Islamic and Communist groups tend to be the first groups outlawed they tend to go underground first. Once underground they start to organize and as other groups are outlawed those groups tend to join the opposition which tends to be either Islamic or Communistic. Once outlawed these groups also tend to be controlled by the most fanatic opponents of the Tyrants and these tend to be either Islamic or Communistic. Thus to oppose the Tyrants you have to support a side with enough discipline to get the job done and that tend to be Communist or Islamic."

"...Any weapons we resort to must be "real" weapons not pistols. i.e. Rifles and shotguns. Due to concerns of re-supply (you have to plan for a long battle) such weapons should be limited to very small number of different rounds. Generally restrict yourself to the following rounds:

5.56x 45 (.223 Remington) 7.62x 63 (30-06) 7.62x 51 (.308 Winchester or 7.62 NATO) 7.62 x 39 (7.62mm Russian 7.62 AK Round) 12 Gauge Shotgun. 30-30 Winchester."

"You have more weapons in the above calibers than any other calibers thus should be your first choice in weapons. Saying this I must point out I like the 7x57 and 7.92x57 Mauser rounds and the M1898 Mauser Bolt action Rifle, but the 7.92 (sometime called 8mm Mauser) but these rounds are less common than the above and thus harder to obtain when re-supply is needed (and re-supply will be needed if the struggle lasts for any length of time).

Re-supply of Ammunition has always been the bane of any military operations. Without ammunition you can not fight. To get you ammunition, it is easier if we can keep the number of different rounds to a minimum (i.e. 5.56x45 and 7.62x51). I list the 30-06 and 30-30 winchester rounds for these are two VERY popular rounds and ammunition for both are easy to obtain (the same with the 12 Gauge shotgun). I list the 7.62 AK round do to the huge number of SKSs and AKs imported since the fall of the Soviet Union. I list it for while there are probably more 30-30s and 30-06 rifles out they than 7.62 Aks and SKSs, the Aks and SKSs may very while outnumber the rifles in 5.56x45 and 7.62 NATO.

Also, if it is decided to fight, be prepared to fight, bring a backpack, entrenching tool, tent, and other equipment of an Infantrymen. You will need it for Bush and his supporters decides it is better to fight than to accept the will of the people, the fight to overthrow them will be a long fight."

[end of excerpts...but many other just as crazy thoughts found at the following link. This thread continued for THREE entire weeks before the moderator finally stepped in. But as of today, Tuesday, April 21, 2009, the thread is still up on the Democratic Underground website.-ETL]

The writer’s point is that the right created the Patriot Act powers now aimed at the right, so we “had it coming”. This is a lazy argument, and disregards completely the horror of 9/11.

Normal responsible citizens want our fed gov to protect us from internal threats and Al Queda collaborators. The authority to spy on “ourselves”, through the FBI and local police must always be used judiciously, and targets need to be chosen carefully with national defense in mind. Sanity must prevail, and if the government oversteps the mandate, we the People spank them.

Our problem: we have two equal-sized parties in America, one half that wants to save America as the Founders designed it, and the other party has recently morphed into a self-hating, angry, childish, emotional half of the population raised on TV and pot-stoked visions of a new socialist utopia. The two parties are growing MORE POLARIZED each day. Now that the latter party is in charge, they are acting predictably insane. This is not a reason to toss away law enforcement and the FBI.

Do I trust the FBI? Not completely, but we need them. They are especially dangerous under democrats, because of the above observations. They work for their bosses. 1960’s FBI watching John Lennon and MLK, somewhat silly. FBI watching radical US masques, probably advisable given 9/11. FBI watching Code Pink and ACORN? that’s getting sketchy. I’m sure democrats would screech at that. FBI watching Catholic pro-life organizations and the NRA? Hmmm. Filming Tea Parties? Not looking good. Combine this with Obamas vision of a huge armed civilian corps trained by his lefty mentors and it doesn’t take a tinfoil hat to see the danger.

The Patriot Act is like a firearm. In the wrong hands it can destroy America. In the right hands it can protect America. At present, the wrong hands have a death grip on control of the federal government. They are acting fast and desperate. Crazy hard left democrats now wield the Patriot Act like a gangster wields a handgun, held sideways and jumping up and down.

The writer is wrong, the Act itself is dangerous to our civil rights only in dangerous hands. The modern Democrat party is dangerous hands.

Banning DHS because certain political parties are inclined to misuse it is like banning guns because certain individuals are inclined to misuse them.

“Do you regret creating the Department of Homeland Security yet? Are you ready to apologize?”

I did not create the DHS, therefore, I cannot apologize. What I did do was rely on my government (which I foolishly assumed knew what was going on and had the little gray cells to know what to do with it) to protect me.

Am I happy that, once again, we’ve opened doors we should not have? No. Am I happy that there are apparently more people who have never been wise by any standard who are operating under the powers it created? No.

We must make decisions based on the best available information with the wisdom to know when we’ve crossed over into madness — the last part seems to be the hardest to do.

The FBI, as we all recall, was founded for the purpose of going after John Dillinger inasmuch as Elliot Ness, as much Scanderhoovian as most of John's gang members, just wouldn't make the attempt.

In the end Purvis was not able to take John alive.

The "lady in red" was supposedly Dillinger's last girlfriend. At the same time Evelyn Frechette, involved in a variety of ways, made a living speaking about her relationships with John, et al. Evelyn is usually identified as a Native American. A little later we have another Chicago woman, Valerie Frechette, who's almost Obama's right hand man at the White House.

One does wonder if Dillinger's story is really closed.
