Thanks. I believe we are in the end times. The world can’t stay in this state for much longer without some serious things coming down.

"everything's just peachy."

That's easy for you to say, you're a "Nam Vet"! Probably with survival skills the rest of us could only dream about... ;-)

I believe that we will get through this because of the thing that really makes America such a wonderful country. The thing we have in abundance that you rarely see in other countries which is neighbor helping neighbor. The folks at the tea parties, at churches on sunday, at youth ball games, school functions and all America WILL work together.

Most "Common people" look at bars with disdain. Everybody recognizes an old dime, quarter, or "silver dollar", plus, most of us don't deal in large transactions. A dime or quarter may be all you need to buy an item. They are both "known quantities".

Bullion (bars) is fine in bulk, but IMHO, a bag of silver is much more useful day-to-day! Also, a box of 22LR could easily become a tank of gasoline...

You are correct. I bought old US silver dollars at $12.50 each. I have some Krugerrands and I have begun to save US nickels (25%nickel - 75%copper).

Coffee and chocolate will be excellent barter items too.

Good for you! I'm really impressed with solar cells. They keep my pickup camper batteries fully charged. Thinking now of buying at least 1kw for the house. Expensive but you get free electrons afterward and who knows what the future value of the dollar will be anyway. I have seeds in the freezer but instead of the garden, I'm buying freeze dried and can vegetables..

I picked up one of these. to help put meat in the pot.

how about I issue a broad generalization of drug addled, video game playing, lazy couch potatoes that make up the younger generation?

you would get no argument (and no scathing self righteous rants) from me.

businesses dont close because people retire.. and small business owners were not the group he was referring to.

What’s the deal with May 11th? What happens then?

He said that stress test results come out sometime during the week of May 4, so he assumed they would actually be released late on that Friday, which is actually the 8th...Monday, the 11th would be the first time the markets opened up after getting the bad news.

Errant, I support keeping emergency supplies and plans handy.

I will say that if I had $0.10 cents for every time someone said the U.S. banking system was going to collapse, I’d be a rich man.

I guess if you say that continually for enough decades, sooner or later you’ll be right.

I was doing a search on something and came across something that said something like “...and after leaving the Clinton Whitehouse, made $13.8 million in two years...” I don’t mind when a businessman earns that much - but when a political hack does, it makes me wonder.

"every time someone said the U.S. banking system was going to collapse"

The report, if valid, that Mr. Turner has gotten his hands on claims that all but a handful of the largest US banks are technically insolvent. I sure hope that report is wrong!

I now have to call my bank days in advance just to get a few thousands dollars in cash. Checks that used to clear immediately now take up to 10 working days. They wanted 15 days until I made a big fuss and threatened to pull my account. Something is stressing the banking system even at the local level. I recommend adding emergency cash to your list as well. ;-)

Exactly how much ready cash do you suggest we safely stash, anyway? Inquiring minds need to know.........
