“the most egregious spending of campaign finances has to be the $688k in legal fees to attorney Bob Bauer for abusing the court system and threatening citizens for exercizing their Constitution rights.”

I’m sure Obama views this as one of his better investments. The birth certificate lawsuits have gone nowhere.

I will echo an earlier poster in wondering: is this a legal use of campaign contributions? First, given that Obama didn’t spend all of his often ill-gotten campaign contributions, is he really allowed to use the surplus as a big slush fund to ward off political criticism during his entire first term?

Second, aren’t the birth certificate lawsuits personal lawsuits aimed at Obama? Are campaign contributions allowed to be used to defend against such suits? As an example, if Obama got a speeding ticket, could campaign contributions be used on his legal defense or to pay his fine? Or to make a more “political” connection: if Obama ever were indicted by Fitzgerald on political corruption charges, could his campaign fund be used to defend against that? That seems bizarre.

We should file complaints with the FEC and the Senate Ethics Committee.
