“The constitution does not say anything about states leaving”
The “United States”, The “States in Union”, the “firm league of friendship with each other” entered into by the several States, whatever you want to call it, predates the Constitution.
The Constitution was established for the United States to, among other things, form a more perfect union of the States.
Why should it say anything about leaving? What is its relevance to the issue?
If the constitution is silent, then it defaults to the states’ powers, if I understand the constitution correctly at the 10th Amendment.
Obviously, that was not the position of Lincoln during the Civil War.
In the end ...isn’nt that exactly WHY the concept of “united state” was created? Such that its members had final recourse in the event of impending tyranny?
If several states declared they were over it and they were going to secede, there would be little DC could do except start kissing some major butt.
You can do a lot when you have the means of force to make it happen.
The founders of the Declaration of Independence gave reasons for separation from England, and those same reasons apply to the tyranny of our federal government today. The very thing that our founding fathers feared most has come to fruition. I would encourage you to read Mark Levin’s book, especially the first couple of chapters. You can’t help but read what the founding fathers thought and wrote to see that our current federal government is worse than King George ever was.
No! That has already been decided a long while back. Secession is nothing more than surrendering the fight and the constitution to the democrat Nazi party socialists. If you want that type of outcome move to France and become a cheese-eating surrender monkey.
sure you can secede....but by superior force only.
i’d say the record is fairly clear on this
come down to Dixie, we still venerate our dead who tried.
looks like we may have to again..alas
That was settled in 1865 with a big NOPE.
The winners were legally and morally wrong, mind you. But it was settled on the negative by main force, which, in the end, is really all that matters.
“The BIG question lately - CAN STATES SECEDE?”
Of course they can. I think the question is, can they secede “legally?”
Ultimately, whether they can do it legally or not is really not the issue, however. The ultimate question is can the states secede morally, and of course they can. Everyone knows this is true, unless they believe the American revolution was immoral.
