Mad Hatter, Taxpayers Hold 'TEA Party' In Market Square (Pittsburgh)

PITTSBURGH -- Groups of taxpayers organized locally and nationally on Tax Day to send a message to Washington that they’ve been “Taxed Enough Already.”

Hundreds of Pittsburghers gathered in Market Square for a "TEA party" Wednesday afternooon to express their frustration with wasteful spending of their tax dollars by the government.

Tea bags were displayed prominently by participants, who carried signs with slogans such as "Repeal The Pork Or We'll Cook Your Bacon", "Revolution Is Brewing" and "Throw The Bums Out."

The protests were inspired by the Boston Tea Party, in which 18th century American colonists threw tea into Boston Harbor to demonstrate against taxes imposed by the British government.

Approximately 1,000 protestors also organized in Greene County to send a similar message to the president and Congress.

I was there. It seemed like more than “hundreds.” Market square was packed.

But WPXI is an NBC channel.

On Quinn he just said there were “at least 2,000 in Market Square.”

That’s what I would guess too.

There was supposed to be one in Lewisburg, TN yesterday. I guess it’ll be reported in the local paper next week. I think it’s happening all over the place. Guess Obama will have to finger the “tea partiers” as “potential terrorists” in order to nip it in the bud, huh?

PJTV has the tally at over 250,000 people nationwide but I think they don’t have a full count. You may need to sign up with the site to get the map but it’s interesting.

Be sure to spread the news.

I was trying to keep count and left pff at around 125,000 and that was early so 250,000 is VERY believable!

HTanks for the link!

that count can't be complete. Texas reports 75 events but only 19,000 attendees. San Antonio had around 20,000 alone. I wonder if they meant 91,000 or 191,000?

Our local TV coverage had a crew covering Market Square. They played a short clip of maybe 5 or 6 Obamabots shouting stuff, but pretty much it seemed like nobody was paying any attention to them. And the bots were the only ones trying to cause trouble.

The fact that police weren’t wearing riot gear is telling in itself.

I was at the tea party yesterday and even in the rain my guess was 1500 to 2000. It was shoulder to shoulder though most of Market Square.

It did not make sense to me that the police did not block off the road and traffic had to drive through the crowd.
