The Tea Parties are over with some of them being hijacked by Republican politicos to make speeches.
Meanwhile, these GOP office holders have a test before them as to whether their words amount to a hill of beans.
Here in Pennsylvania yesterday, former congressman and Club For Growth president Pat Toomey, made it official.
Toomey is challenging Arlen Specter in the GOP Primary for US Senate next year.
As you remember, Specter was one of three GOP senators who did what no other Republicans in Congress did.
Specter voted YES on the massive "stimulus" bill.
In fact, he cast the deciding vote to pass the pork laden Obama "stimulus" bill.
Now you would think the other Republican senators who like to beat their chests and say how "conservative" they are, would be upset.
But I see no indications of that. Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas, who heads the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, has come out whole hog for Arlen Specter. Cornyn calls Specter the "best bet" to keep the seat Republican.
Doesn't this make you wonder what the real motive for that no vote on the stimulus bill was in the first place?
They did it to make us think they were conservative and did it knowing old Arlen would pass the bill anyway. That way the Democrats couldn't call Republicans "obstuctionist." Plus the GOP politicos get the money in their states from the "stimulus" ahead of their re-election campaigns.
Well, I challenge you to help Pat Toomey with your money from all over America.
But I also challenge you to demand that the Mark Sanford's, Rick Perry's, Mitt Romney's etc. line up behind Pat Toomey for US Senate here in PA.
Demand that your GOP Senators and Congressman, the Grassley's, Hatch's and Lugars's get in behind Toomey as well.
If these guys really opposed this "stimulus" and meant it then they should be mad a hell that Specter voted for it.
Put up Republican politicos, or shut up.
The hot air speeches are over.
Are you for Arlen Specter or against him?
That's a Yes or No question.
It doesn’t matter if the seat is nominally “Republican” if the seat’s holder doesn’t vote that way when it counts.
I agree and I hope we are careful in choosing them.
I am mad at Specter too, and I want him out, but Specter, as bad as he is, would be better than someone like Murtha rising to the Senate!
Things can always, always, always get worse!
Also, it is longstanding policy that Republican officeholders from outside an area do NOT endorse challengers, in Primaries, likewise the Party should stay neutral, in Primaries.
The Republican Campaign Committee is NOT the Republican Party.
I agree wholeheartedly that this election is a test case. The GOP lost me in 2004 with the way they treated Toomey. He had Specter beat until Bush and Santorum came to Arlen’s rescue.
Toomey is an ideal conservative candidate, the kind the GOP should hope for. If the Cornyn viewpoint prevails again, serious consideration should be given to forming a new Conservative Party, and run Toomey in the general election.
PA could make history, once again. Remember it was us Yinzers from Western PA that started the first rebellion against this government - the Whiskey Rebellion.
“But I see no indications of that. Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas, who heads the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, has come out whole hog for Arlen Specter. Cornyn calls Specter the “best bet” to keep the seat Republican. “
Why the hell should we bother keeping the seat Republican when the Republican acts like a liberal democrat?
The whole GOP can kiss my butt.
So...without reading the bill he threw out 7oo billion dollars of our money not knowing if it would work, just needed to look busy!
He voted for the stimulus because they agreed to put one of his pet projects in it ....thats why my moeny goes to Toomey.
Murtha is not going anywhere except maybe to court.
Some investigation is supposedly underway.
I’m bothered when Republicans push a 3.1 trillion dollar budget as an alternative to Obama’s 3.5 trillion dollar budget.
They are living with the stimulus even as they vote against it and will support Specter even though his vote put it over the top.
For a lot of Republicans in Washington, the anti-stimulus vote was a put on.
I’m not pushing third party, but when does the GOP act get cleaned up. I say its now or never and insist they all support Toomey.
John Boehner, Eric Cantor etc. etc. should have nothing to do with supporting Specter.
And that goes double for any and all talk show hosts including my screen name namesake.
I want Spector out. The problem is when he is defeated in the primary, this asshole will run as an independent purely to pull votes away from the GOP candidate and some scum like Mertha will walk into victory.
I hope the conservatives realize they have a moment here and seize upon it. There is a strong backlash brewing against the lefty and his minions and when this stimulus and other crap they are pushing through don’t work out, there will be a counter trend, just like in 94. It is too late to convince Spector to change his attitude so perhaps someone can convince him not to run citing health reasons. This is one seat we need change to conservative.
Vince
Pennsylvania is a closed party state that prevents anyone from being a candidate twice.
You run either Republican, Democrat or something else one time.
The signature threshold is also higher for non R and D candidates.
So Specter cannot do that trick. He must pick from the choices above.
Perfect, Phil!!!

My VERY BEST wishes for Pat Toomey in his bid to kick
Arlen Spectacle’s a$$ (as Mark Levin calls him)!
