(CNN) — It's official. Former Rep. Pat Toomey is challenging Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter for his Senate seat, again.

Toomey formally announced his 2010 Senate bid Wednesday, the second time he will challenge the incumbent Pennsylvania senator after running an unsuccessful primary campaign against him in 2004.

"I'm running against Arlen Specter in the Republican primary because we need a new direction and positive solutions," Toomey says on his campaign website, ToomeyForSenate.com.

Phone call this evening. Supposedly the call was from the Republican Senatorial Committee. I politely told them they were dead to us unless and until Specter was ousted from the Republican Party. It felt really good. And it didn't cost me a thing. Used to be every time I got a call from them it cost me $$$, but no more!

Rep Senatorial Committee called me last night. I just said I only support specific candidates. Pat Toomey will be one of them, even though I’m out here on the left coast!

I don't want to hear any of this crap about how we need to support Specter because of judges, committee chairs, better an R than a D, etc. BULL! I heard this crap in 2004 and if Bush would have just stayed out of it, Toomey would have won. Specter deserves to lose, if Toomey loses in the primary, then he needs to run 3rd party. SPECTER NEEDS TO GO!

I’m glad Toomey is in — but it’s a LONG time to 2010! These election cycles are like an NBA Basketball season — ENOUGH ALREADY!

Maybe a GREAT reform we could champion is a SHORT and relatively reasonable campaign season! Make political ads COMPLETELY illegal until AFTER Labor Say in Election Years.... Oh no, can’t do that. The major TV and Cable networks would have to shut down....

Good post. I just posted about the same thing earlier this morning. I took a lot of grief from folks on this website in 2004 for advocating Specter’s defeat. believe it or not there are still some spewing this in 2009.
