Governor Says Texas Can Leave Union If It Wants (with audio)
Houston Chronicle ^ | April 15, 2009

"Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that," Perry said. "My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that."

Actually, Texas consumes more oil than it produces.

The Gulf of Mexico has much more oil to offer for Texas and other southern states with gulf coastline.

“I hope they’d write a constitution and new laws to keep leftists from moving in and ruining it.”

Check out my thread. While we would be stuck with our lazy locals, an independent country can set its own immigration rules and my suggestion was that any immigrants from the North speak English and prove they were net income tax payers in the rump USA.

They could also be given a psych test...the term “Ronald Reagan” would be said...depending on which muscles twitch, one can easily figure out their political viewpoint.

You might have a leading roll in the new Texas.

“I despise Perry (mainly for selling control of our highways to private and foreign ownership, and then giving them monopoly protection to charge whatever tolls they can get).”

Sigh, let me guess, and you want less government interference. Hey lets make Austin the new U.S. Capital.

"Do you seriously see and hippies or fi-fi NYC types volunteering for uncle O to bring them back in?"

I don't know about the hippies, but the parts of the left that have damaged this country are bonafied control freaks.

I wouldn't put it past them to try and stop any red state from leaving.

Despite the fact that they seem to have a lack of knowledge, they do know where the hardworkers live and therefore how much less tax $$ that would be.

However! Texas also has its own self-sustaining power grid, not hooked up with any other states. *Grin*

Thanks, but there are people for better at that than myself. But the serious talk has now begun...Perry may have thought it was a gimmick to get to the right of Kay, but he may have unleashed much more than he planned.

Say what? I simply think that the government shouldn’t be dishing out monopolies on required services any more than absolutely necessary. Perry seems to thrive in selling us out.

But he’s right to open the discussion on the “S” word.

Bingo!!!!

I would expect oBoBo to "act like Lincoln" and use military to keep union together. It will be bloody but perhaps the ONLY way America can survive.

If TX left the union without firing a shot at anybody do you think US servicemen would shoot at them? I really doubt it.

Not necessarily...their arrogance may be so high that they may want us to leave, just so we can fail. They may be happy to get rid of the largest red state in the country (likely along with a handful of other troublesome red states).

“Say what?”

Oh I agree. Public infrastructure SHOULD be publicly owned and run.

Perry seems to thrive in selling us out.

Apparently he's a Free Marketeer or Capitalist.

Could not agree more. What a bummer to have this guy light the fuse. But even so, it needed to be the Texas governor, in order to get this out of Kooksville.

Just wait until Texas seceeds, it will be the LARGEST populated. I am a Texan living in Okla., many people would move there.

If we did secede, we would have to expel all the liberals to succeed.
