The bishop presiding in that area cannot kick out the Dean, but he can rescind the school’s permission to call itself Catholic. That would be a huge loss of cachet for the school.

This is not the only anti-God shenanigans this school has gotten into. They just had a (more or less) gay appreciation week, believe it or not.

Really. A “priest” in the diocese does not report to his Bishop? I should think he could reassign him at will. Who DOES he report to? The Jesuits? Hasn’t the Pope recently cracked down hard on a renegade order in Italy?

Not to mention a performance of the hideous Vagina Monologues.

I am not Catholic, and I do not intend to be offensive (honestly!) but I will be blunt. To me, this is a very black/white debate. Does the Catholic church really stand for anything?

If the Catholic church claims Notre Dame as a private Catholic school, then ultimately are’t they also responsible for the way this school is ran? I mean, if Notre Dame decided to sponsore some on-campus abortion clinics, would the church act then? Gay appreciation, bestowing honorial degrees to a person who champions abortion, are there any rules that are inflexable? Many other religious institutions have strict rules of conduct that students, facility and administrators agree to abide by, as a condition of attending or employment. These actions bespeak utter contempt for the values that Notre Dame was allegedly founded upon.

Silence, by it’s very nature, implies consent and approval, or worse - cowardice.
