What you should know about this jerk is that early on in his career, he WAS a democrat. He only switched to the Republican Party as it was the only way he could win a certain election(don’t remember what it was for, DA or something). Yes, it is closed. You can change your party prior to the primary, I believe it is 30 or 45 days prior. Fast Eddie Rendell used this tactic to get the Dem nomination for GOV. It was also used for Operation Chaos.

This is not all that bad for stopping a filibuster. The dems need 60 votes for cloture, the republicans do not need 41. An empty seat is the best result for republicans.
