National GOP to Back Specter
American Spectator ^ | on 4.14.09 @ 4:28PM | By W. James Antle, III

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn has thrown his weight behind Sen. Arlen Specter, who is likely to face a tough renomination fight against former Club for Growth President Pat Toomey:

"My job as head of the NRSC is to guide the GOP back to a majority in the Senate," wrote Cornyn to Pennsylvania Republicans. "I can't do that without Arlen Specter. With him as our nominee, I can target our campaign resources toward beating Democrats and growing the Senate Republican Conference."

It stinks like a dead skunk in the middle of the road that one has to kiss up to an incumbent moderate when there’s a great conservative in the wings getting short shrift. But yeah, that’s the incumbent biz, sweetheart. That’s one reason why the Senate should have term limits, so you can’t get blackmailed by incumbents.

Kick them ALL out! No mercy.

This is quickly becoming the consensus among conservatives.

Arlen Sphincter? Well if the GOP party “bosses” want him, then he MUST be defeated.

Then the National GOP can kiss my butt.

No money for you GOP.

Face it, the hardline people who donate are right here on this site. The lukewarm isn’t going to donate, but we would have.

No, it’s time for Toomey to run on the Constitution Party. I don’t care if it causes Specter to win. Specter has no business running.

A Quinnipiac poll of a few weeks ago has Toomey ahead of Spectre 41-27 in the primary for 2010:

I’m going against the grain here, but it makes perfect political sense.

No, it doesn't. Don't be a tool.

We can’t have Specter backing card check again.

There's no guarantees with Specter. He would have backed it had he not been up for re-election. Remember he voted for the porkulus bill.

That’s what’s at stake here.

No, what's at stake here is draining the swamp of RINOs and Rats who are destroying Washington. Specter is pushing 80 years old and is battling cancer - why support him?

Therefore, public support must continue on the sitting senator.

What do you think primaries are for?

Once he loses the primary, then the GOP can endorse and support the nominee. This move is purely political.

Again, no guarantees. Crossover union Dems will vote for Specter. That's why the RNC should stay the F out of the race. Personally, Toomey should go the 3rd party route. I'd rather have a young Dem in the seat than Specter.

Got a letter from RNC asking for money... again.

My reply will be something along these lines:

“Not one cent to the Party which has decided that it is acceptable for Senators to betray the people and their party for his own political expediency. Further, the fact that you refuse to punish any of these 3 makes me demand you send back every dime I ever donated.”
