“The strange thing is that Fidel and Raul Castro are of European and Lebanese descent”

I knew that the Castros’ father was from Galicia in NW Spain, and that his mother was from a white Cuban family, but had never heard that the Castros were partly of Lebanese descent. What’s your source?

There are Lebanese people (Christian Lebanese) throughout Latin America because a lot of them fled Lebanon in the 1920’s with the rise of Islamism, and then there was a later wave. Castro’s father’s family is from Galicia (Spain) but his mother was either entirely or part Lebanese, and her family probably came to Cuba from the Canaries.

In any case, Castro has absolutely no black or Indian blood, and is either European or European/Middle Eastern; and on top of that, his family was fairly recently arrived in Cuba (late 19th century), which of course was founded by Spain more than 400 years ago.
