Is Pres--ent Ubama going to read him his rights? Is Receptionist of State Hillary Rotten Clinton going to cackle at him? Is the Congressional Black Caucus going to agitate for normalizing relations with pirates?
The captain’s rescue is great news, but let’s keep this piracy outbreak in perspective - it’s way, WAY down on the list of national security threats. Lawlessness in our own cities and our southern border far outweighs scattered piracy in the Indian Ocean in importance. Plus, we made the mistake of getting drawn way too far into in Somalia’s chaos before.
Dealing with Pirates 101:
POP POP POP?
I say we just open up a new Disney theme park in the area and hire them as cast members, make a unique pirate themed ride, you get to repel pirates from your yacht which has no defensive weapons, you get to experience being a captive hostage and then you get to be released.
I don’t see a need to add “courageous” to “US Navy SEALS”, it’s redundant and implies that there is some other type.
All I can say is: thank goodness David Axelrod and his polling shop managed to persuade Obama to authorize pulling the trigger and ending this humiliating farce just before the “Barry and the Pirates” t-shirts started hitting the streets.
Not to worry, I’m sure the vendors won’t lose money. The t-shirts will still sell well, for different reasons.
Yo ho! Arrrrrr!
(I want the one featuring Obama with an eye-patch)
I wonder if any of the kooks at DU et al are jumping up and down asking for Obama to punish the snipers who murdered the poor pirates with Evil Guns!
The only thing missing is Bill Clinton with a tear in his eye, biting his pursed lip, shaking his fist and declaring that we will catch and prosecute those "criminals," and then do nothing but wait for someone to track them down, capture them, and bring them home for trial; justice will have to wait a decade or two while the trail lawyers get rich. We are still waiting for action initiated during the Clinton administration (unfunded of course). Such things give the Democrats something to talk about and hope for...
In the meantime our military can ask for permission twice a day to lock and load whenever we are threatened. Permission to actually shoot is another matter to be discussed with the FBI, the State Department, congress, White House staff, and criminal lawyers, not to mention the Commander in Chief.
That is, if captured, executed on the spot.
Or is that more of a "guidelline" than a rule??
Timne for a few of these.
All we are doing is making them angry...and now we are a recruitment tool for more pirates.../sarc
LIPPOLD: First, we're not negotiating with terrorists; we're negotiating with pirates. Piracy is a business opportunity. They have a very effective business model. Obviously a terrorist is someone who tries to deter and disrupt for a political goal and to wreak havoc and terror on a society. Pirates, on the other hand, are stopping these vessels so that they can hold them for ransom. It's a very effective business model. The shipping industry and the insurance companies have given in to their demands numerous times over the years, and so consequently it is a criminal activity, not a terrorist activity.
And after hearing the great news that the pirates received bullets through their heads, I immediately thought of this quote. Turns out not to be so "effective" when this business model is applied on Americans. It might work on wimpy Europeans, but rule number one of business: KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER!
DUMB PIRATES
The Somali pirates let a US Navy destroyer put a tow line on their rickety enclosed lifeboat??????
NOW THEY'RE DEAD DUMB PIRATES
So what'd the US Navy say to get the three pirates to stick their heads out the porthole...... so that US Navy snipers could pick them off?
ROTFL.
Why even call them terrorists? Let’s call them pirates and kill them.
