Everyone Should Pay Income Taxes
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 04-12-09 | Ari Fleischer

It's bad for our democracy to exempt half the country.

If you thought Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme was bad, wait until you hear about the inverted pyramid scheme the federal government is working on. While Mr. Madoff preyed on people who trusted him with their money, the federal government has everyone's money, and the implications of its actions are worse.

Picture an upside-down pyramid with its narrow tip at the bottom and its base on top. The only way the pyramid can stand is by spinning fast enough or by having a wide enough tip so it won't fall down. The federal version of this spinning top is the tax code; the government collects its money almost entirely from the people at the narrow tip and then gives it to the people at the wider side. So long as the pyramid spins, the system can work. If it slows down enough, it falls.

It's also what's called redistribution of income, and it is getting out of hand.

"Nothing wrong with having a debate over a federal income tax or a national sales tax."

OK, but if you think that if you allow your government to follow every cent you make you are still a free man... well, I would like to know just what your definition of freedom is. Lets face it folks. The control freaks in government have long since ceased to use the income tax code as a means of simply collecting money for legitimate government functions and are using it as a means to control our behavior.

And thank you for bringing that up.

It was very important to note, and I missed it.

Paraphrasing Ayn Rand. “The best way to control a population is to make so many things illegal that no member of the society can carry on their lives as free people without violating one or more to them.”

Very well. Why can't the government of the United States switch to a non intrusive sales tax on new goods to an end user and tariffs?

Eliminate “earned income tax credit” and make those welfare cases pay income tax.

If they don’t earn anything charge them a penalty!

A TAX POEM

At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it.
Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he’s fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think..

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his a__.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won’t be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He’s good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he’s laid..

Put these words
upon his tomb,
‘ Taxes drove me to my doom...’

When he’s gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Accounts Receivable Tax
Building Permit Tax
CDL license Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was
the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in
the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the world happened? Can you spell ‘politicians!’
And I still have to ‘press 1’ for English!?!?!?!?

I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times!!!!!

YOU can help it get there!!!!

While I understand you sentiment, I disagree with your basic premise. It's none of any ones business how much money we make. Top to bottom. It's also no ones business to tell anyone else that it's their obligation to take care of someone else unless it's their own direct family.

Obama has given a whole new meaning to “paying income taxes.” For many of cult followers it means getting a check in the mail for taxes that they did not pay.

Jamil Mahuad, president of Ecuador in the late nineties, did away with their income tax and replaced it with a banking services tax of 2 percent. The theory was that, doing this, all money was taxed whether legal or hot money, at the point that it entered or left the banking system.

Cash transactions weren’t taxed, obviously, but the theory was that eventually all money enters the banking system and gets taxed when it does. Credit card transactions, checks, deposits, withdrawals, whatever.

They eliminated the income tax on the basis that there was, in their system, too much fraud involved, and it was a burden for small business owners to deal with it. Banks are set up to keep track of transactions, so all the taxation would take place there, and no where else.

The Left didn’t like it, because as they said, “all advanced countries have an income tax” therefor, they should have it also.

He also eliminated their local currency and went to the US dollar, since the upper class was already dollarized. This eliminated inflation in one blow.

Within short order, he was overthrown. They brought back the income tax, but kept the bank services tax, so now they have both. Oh well. Still, it was an interesting experiment in getting rid of the income tax, and the Left went wild. The guys who overthrew him were on the payroll of Chavez, for whatever its worth.

I agree. I want roads and public schools and I don’t want to organize building and running them. So, I’m willing to pay the government to do that for me.

I don’t want to pay for my perfectly able landlady who was laid off and got 6 months of unemployment. She then got that 6 months extended to 1 year “because of the bad economy”. The obvious problem is not that we don’t tax enough, but that we allow the government to spend and waste on so many things that are really disservices to the country.

How's about we just keep track, and anyone who doesn't pay the treasury, net, doesn't get to vote until they do again?

Simple.
