WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Pirates off the eastern coast of Africa fired on U.S. sailors Saturday as they tried to reach the lifeboat where an American captain is being held, a U.S. official familiar with the situation told CNN.
The gunfire forced the sailors, who did not return fire, to turn back, the official said.
The incident took place some 12 hours ago as the guided missile destroyer USS Bainbridge sent a small team toward the lifeboat, said the official.

OK, I’ll look into it. They were probably talking about the Maersk Alabama which just arrived in Kenya without the captain.
Which is why I suggested a fake terrorist attack on them. They need to think they are dealing with people who are crazier than they are.
If and when we regain control, it’ll be appropriate for all the sutpid libs to be set adrift at sea and be told if they drift back our way they will be rightfully considered an invading enemy and processed acordingly.
Scum all over the world are noticing our leadership vaccuum in Washington and are emboldened. Hell, Obama’s European tour last week emboldened them. And his video to Iran. And his stance toward North Korea. And his vow to close Gitmo. And his litany of apologies for us crass Americans.
He is worse than Carter. He would sell us all for a mess of pottage.
