I would think that after almost twenty years he’d be fully vested. He may not get the full amount he expected after retirement but not $0. That’s my situation after my company dropped the funded pension plan. I was converted to a cash basis account that gets interest because I had less than 15 years at the time. They match 6%(plus a variable amount each year) into our 401k.

IMHO companys like GM agreed to give certain benefits and then claim they didnt see the unsustainable costs coming and they shift the screwing to the line worker who they claim should have known the program was unsustainable. There is a point where everyone needs to realize that mistakes were made and EVERYONE needs to take cuts. It's pretty hard to take a cut at the lunchpail level when CEO's, who have failed their jobs, are still taking home millions.
Oh! so the financial experts never saw it coming but Joe lunchpail should have known better?
That one is just incredible!
