When the Muslims took over it was converted to a mosque.

It could be worse. The Sancta Sapientia hasn’t been a religious edifice since 1935, when Ataturk decreed it was no longer a mosque but a museum, or a Christian house of worship since 1453, when Constantinople fell to the Muslim Ottoman Turks.
