The speech was made up days before talking about nuclear disarmament in geneal. It was not a speech challenging North Korea directly such as Reagan's challenge to Gorbachev at the Berlin Wall.
Then, because of the timing, the White House wonks and their interns on the road in Prague named "Mindy" and "Dexter" on loan from Planne Parenthood or NPR or Brookings Institute or wherever, etc. figured, "hell, we will just splice in a bunch of angry sounding sound bites about North Korea, mix that stuff in, and have a big cheering crowd to boot".
The problem is, (and hearing it just now on Fox in addition to their incredibly air-headed, juvenile, surface coverage of this issue), the speech sounded so disjointed and mismatched. At the one moment he is chewing out North Korea, but then he is actually chewing out all nuclear powers including the United States.
This was one of the WORST speeches that could have been delivered by a President under such a test. We are in for a rough four years folks, really really rough. Our enemies are going to get extremely bold now in light of this lightweight and such an odd speech.
Watch them in action at the UN today (Sunday)--if you can bear it. China, Russia and the DPRK representative (if invited to speak) will walk all over the United States Representative. Our only hope is that the reps for Japan and South Korea kick some tail later today; the US under Obama certainly won't.
With your screen name being SF_Redux, I would think you are from San Francisco (more like San Fran Sickos).
In your first reply you were worried about carbon credits, and the carbon footprint those ships produced will be tiny compared to the footprint produced if NK sends a nuke into the west coast, i. e., San Fran.
I hope you sleep good after this missile launch, knowing you are within range of a possible nuke.
Did TOTUS also include this strongly worded sentence in all caps?

Can FR really have become a resistance movement, the direct descendant of the Maquis and the Underground? Can we really become the only way that people can obtain unbiased, no-propaganda news around the edges of the state-sponsored news agencies?
That alone, is a sobering thought.
We just have to go around them. We did on 60 Minutes Dan Rather thing (and brought him down as a result) and we can also resort to additional PEOPLE POWER.
If true, that just proves how irrelevant we(conservatives) have become. No one want’s to hear conservative ideas anymore.

All of your "words" at the UN are meaningless (amd are, in fact, the antithesis of "action"), and the North Koreans, the Iranians, and others, including the Red Chinese, know it and scorn and mock you...and even worse...take abject advantage of you and this nation as a result.

Sadly, I agree with you.
I think you are right. I am sometimes shocked people don’t know what I know. But I feel like I come off as hysterical if I bombard them with all I know.
Sadly (not sad that it’s conservative, sad that more people AREN’T conservative), some of FR is more right wing than some are comfortable with, so it deters them from gathering the information that is available here.
I already feel like I am part of some sort of Resistance movement. Unorganized, but I feel part of it.
