North Korea has activated radar for its planned launch of what the country claims as a communications satellite, signaling that the launch is imminent, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said Sunday, quoting an unnamed South Korean source.

Yonhap also said South Korea's presidential office convened a National Security Council meeting in a sign confirming the imminent launch. The presidential office earlier said the NSC will be convened only after an actual launch.

North Korea has announced that it would launch a satellite sometime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Saturday to Wednesday.

The danger area they stipulated for the second stage to the ICAO in Pacific, was not reached. It came down 1270 kilos of Japan, they were shooting for 2000 kilos off the coast, so they FAILED.

Urgently analyzing if it is an ICBM or if the in fact put a satellite in orbit. I am sure DPRK will announce a satellite success, but whatever, their information will largely be inaccurate and lies.

The good guys (Japan/US)should annouce shortly. Who knows where the damn payload is at this time (well NORAD would know at least). Stand by. Were there any warnings delivered to Americans in Hawaii, Alaska and the West Coast of the USA? (I doubt it).

I’m in Tacoma...there was no warnings/air raid/EAS activation here.

Fox News now reporting that S. Korea (unconfirmed) says it’s a satellite.

Government spokesman is saying : “11:37 went over Japan. Will tell the people shortly all details through EMNet emergency system. Second stage, 1270 kilos into Pacific off east of Japana. Just after launch, details given to Prime Minister. PM checked safety of all ships, and aircaft of Japan and as to the people. Main thing was to check if anything came down in Japan, so Prime Minister was in the mode of protecting the Japanese. It is REGRETTABLE North Korea did this. We asked them NOT do do it. We activate the Prime Minister emergency system, and defense system and all ministrie. We are still collecting information, we will tell what in more detail soon.”

Govt spokesmen says they dont know if it was ICBM or satellite yet based on launch trajectory. (or they may no but are not commenting). The made not orders to shoot down as there was no direct particle threat to Japan.

Seems to have way undershot on the Pacific Ocean portion (second stage) of flight. Looks like it came down aroud 38 degrees North Latitude, 150 degrees in Longitude. Probably 1/2 the distance the Chia Pet was hoping for. But it DOES represent a step forward from their launch of three years ago where it failed and came down into the Sea of Japan 2 minutes after launch. Not as good as they wanted but better than last time. PROGRESS. This still represents a bit threat to the USA and Japan and Korea.

IT CANNOT BE SAID YET WHETHER THIS WAS A SATELLITE OR NOT OR WHETHER IT FAILED OR NOT IN THAT RESPECT.

Is it known for sure that the missle went down beause of it’s own failings? IOW, did anyone take it down?

With where it was, pieces would have fallen on Japanese land.

Difficult to do with PAC three missiles unless the rocket is on an aberrant course at a much lower elevation, ie. out of control and heading directly in one piece or in fragments toward Japanese soil. Japan will just have to develop their MD on their own and with greater effect (higher elevation, earlier in the Taepodong flight to knock it down).

I bet in the next few days and weeks it emerges that Obama and the State Department told Japan "dont you dare shoot that thing down if it is on a regular course". I would not doubt it from this bunch in the White House right now. They are probably all drunk and fornicating in Georgetown at this moment anyways...
