How can this be the highlight of GOP ads when Bush was photographed holding hands and kissing the Saudis? This is a non-issue and we need to concentrate on things that will take back the House and Senate for 2010.
C’mon... Do you not understand the difference between greeting an EQUAL, and BOWING in submission? This is WAY different than what Bush did in greeting not only a foreign leader, but a close family friend (they’ve been doing business since George was a kid — the Prince and he probably played together!).
This is not a NON-Issue. This is exactly the type of issue that sticks in people’s minds, and resonates. It’s exactly the type of “sound-bite” attack that the GOP NEEDS to stop being afraid of... The Democrats took advantage of EVERY single little miss-step Bush made, none even CLOSE to this act by Obama. If the GOP wants to win in 2010 — they need to hit HARD... APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING in today’s political world...
This is a very big issue. Obama represents our nation at this meeting, and he bows to the Saudi king???!!!! This is a very big issue.
Holding hands, hand shaking are both the acts of EQUALS. A BOW is an act of SUBMISSION and/or SUBSERVANCE! I didnt care for Bushs stroll with the King that much myself, but the two acts are in NO WAY comparable! What do you think would have happened to you in the middle ages (A time the Saudis still live in by the way.) If you walked up to your sovereign and shook their hand instead of bowing? Does the term OFF WITH THEIR HEAD come to mind?
Non issue? You’re kidding right?
Actions speak loud and clear. This was not a gaffe. It was intentional. If it were a gaffe, he would have probably bowed to the queen (which he should not either). Can you name another leader who is bowing to another during the G20?
This is a non-issue?
You are either kidding or you are ignorant. There is no third choice.
There are analysts and advisors in every country around the world, friend and foe who are looking at that bow, and there are only two things that they are concluding: That Obama is either a rank amateur who can be taken to the cleaners, or he is intentionally doing things like this to show that if he and his administration have anything to say about it, the USA is not going to be playing the part of a superpower in the world.
Those are the two conclusions, and there is no third alternative.
And both are equally dangerous.
If he is a clueless, rank amateur (and he is regardless) then like hustlers looking for marks, someone or some country is going to try to take him.
If he is signaling that the USA is going to play the part of just being any other country, a liberal form of relativism, then that is giving the green light to any country that wishes to exploit that weakness.
