I loved WW but wanted to loose weight fast so I went on South Beach and since 2/23 I’ve lost about 12 pounds. I also only have vino once a week compared to almost every night....a lot less sugar.

This is so true. I was reading an article yesterday about how a seared scallop salad at Macaroni Grill has...wait for it...97 grams of fat! And of course, this is not isolated. Salads can be some of the biggest “hidden fats” out there, because people think “salad=healthy”, like as long as it’s in a bowl and some veggies are present it’s good for you.

I low carbed for many years, very successfully, and now, suddenly it’s not working. So, I’ve gone back to the old fashioned way, counting calories (which is basically what weight watchers is). If I can get my weight down I plan to go back to a low carb lifestyle because I prefer it.

Really—I see people fool themselves all the time. The other day, tho, I was at Starbucks and thought I would have a scone. I knew it would be quite a few points, but I had not used any Flexpoints for the week. Turned out it was NINE points! That is almost half my daily allotment! Sheesh. I find I just do better if I eat at home. I’ve lost about 12 lbs since the end of January. Not extremely fast, but I feel good and not too deprived.

Everything you write is true, but I don't think people are fat these days on account of salad dressing. Food didn't used to be available 24/7, but now it is. The more difficult your life is hour-by-hour, the more likely you will be to seek pleasure in eating. I'd bet a million bucks that any “poor” neighborhood in a U.S. city where people are fat today, will have fat residents twenty years from now...no matter how many government sponsored anti-obesity programs there are. Conservatives and libertarians should NOT jump on board the anti-obesity bandwagon.

Yes, and evil guns will kill people if you don’t watch them closely. Evil SUVs will mow down entire villages if not restricted. Evil forks will blow you up like a balloon if you don’t corral them!

I guess none of these guys ever heard of “Go outside and play, and don’t come back in until I call you!” Nobody ever heard of putting the tv in the dumpster? Just NOT getting those video game players (trust me...kids do not die from this kind of deprivation), or simply not bringing home the crappy, ersatz food that turns them into porkers? Guess these people are all too young to remember the days before “convenience” foods. Nobody ever asks why grandma and grandpa were never fat as children.

Don’t forget that the libs let the perverts loose, so we can’t let them go out and play, either.

Google Great American Land and Cattle Company. Order some of their seasoning. Put it on meat, chicken, veggies, fish, everything you cook. Makes everything taste great. If you ever get within 200 miles of El Paso, Tx go to their restaurant for the best steak you have ever tasted.

Hell, RECESS is banned - teachers don’t want playground duty, so they cut it out!

Thanks, I don’t think I’ll ever get into shorts again! But, I’d like to be able to wear jeans and feel sort of normal!

I agree, and I’m not jumping on an obesity bandwagon, only pointing out that people should use some common sense whether it’s salad dressing, oil, butter, or whatever if their goal is to control their weight.

Well when my kids were little they were out all day long, stayed out until I called them in.....all parents kept an eye on the kids no matter what part of the neighborhood they were in, parents even yelled at kids and didn’t get sued. We all have fenced in yards in my neighborhood, there’s no excuse for kids to be in the house these days, parents need to get off thier butts and go outside with the kids, play ball, go to the park, take a walk around the block, family things, no excuse for kids to be fat, not today, not any day.

It’s all calories consumed versus calories burned. A big part of succeeding at that is accepting that while it’s pleasurable to eat, it’s not a good idea to use food as entertainment.

I watched that “Supersize Me” documentary, and it made me sick. Wall to wall corporate-bashing and denial of personal responsibility.

You know what, if you give people enough freedom, they’ll hang themselves. There’s no lack of healthy food out there. And more importantly, there’s no lack of food marketed as healthy. How many boxes are now labeled “fat free,” “zero trans fat,” “heart healthy,” “lean,” and on and on. Obviously, the marketing gurus have responded to the outcry for healthier options. Now that the options are here (as if they weren’t before, lurking in the produce section, far away from the candy/pop/cereal/ice cream aisles), not much has changed on the obesity front.

Whether or not they’re actually that healthy isn’t the point. The point is, we’re being supplied with “healthy” food. We’re being induced by big business to buy healthy food. And still we’re fat. Why? Because bad food tastes good. People will continue to choose what’s bad for them. Evolution has screwed us.
