The number of checks has spiked in Massachusetts and nationwide, according to the agency’s National Criminal Investigative Service.

You'd think "someone" would take the hint, and stop talking about bans and super registration schemes and such. But apparently they aren't that bright.
And those checks do not represent all the new gun sales. In states with qualifying CHL/CCL systems, you can buy guns from a dealer without undergoing the background check.
