For Republicans searching to find a way out of the political wilderness, the 2008 election provides some clear guideposts and a flashing yellow sign about the road theyre on.
Even in a year when total voter turnout increased dramatically, Hispanics managed to boost their share of the vote from 8 percent to 9 percent, giving Barack Obama a lopsided margin of 68 percent to 31 percent, the most for a Democrat since 1996. The numbers represented a sharp dropoff in Hispanic support for Republicans since the Bush-Cheney high water mark of 40 percent just 4 years ago.
Whats received less attention is the impact Hispanics had on down-ticket races. Latinos supported Democrats in races for the Senate and House by even slightly higher margins than they gave Obama. The Pew Hispanic Center, using exit polls published by CNN, has estimated that Hispanics share of the vote increased most significantly in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, where they helped elect two new Democratic senators and four new Democrats to the House. All four states were carried by Bush in 2004.

Bingo, the posters here who defend the stupid conduct of the republicans of the last few years are as sick as they are.
Ping!
The laws are being ignored. Might as well propose open borders and let them try to make an argument as to “why not”. Perhaps this would clarify the arguments by taking it to the absurd.
Any reason to wonder why he wrote this?
It could have been written by the RNC or the Mccain/Palin campaign.
NO, the GOP should NOT!!!
What part of CLOSE THE BORDER do they NOT understand???
Great idea, Not only that but we can offer to give them credit for paying social security taxes during the time that they were working under the table, and give them the Obama tax credit retro-actively. We can out-bid the democrats on illegals. Oh, yes, and we can tax the rich to pay for it, anyone making over 250K can pay 95% tax, called the “The immigration stability fairness tax”. This tax would only apply to American citizens , not those legalized under amnesty(say they made 300K in drug sales, we ignore that.) . If we follow this advice we can get Acorn and La-Raza on our side.
McCain would be in a tough position if Obama brought this up.
The GOP should start pushing for deportation. The biggest danger to this country comes not from Iraq but from the open borders and the hordes of illegal aliens and immigrants from enemy nations who roam across the country. An invasion.
Then you'll see race wars between all the little subgroups because the socialist overlords can't even come close to delivering what they promised.
How does the author get from A to B? Is he saying that the 20 million undocumented workers are cartel members? Or, if they can do background checks on all 20 million and put them in a massive database and determine that they aren't cartel members, that they'll be model citizens and should be granted amnesty? What information will they gather? How many people will be required to establish and maintain it? How many dollars will be spent without doing a thing to fix the problem?
And if the government succeeds in pushing this massive intrusion on privacy onto illegal aliens (and/or newly minted citizens), how long before they will require it of all citizens?
"Pathetic little crap weasel" is right.
Amnesty probably didn't effect those who actually voted, but we have no idea how many conservatives just sat home because really why bother. McLame was just Bob Dole (ver 2.0) and he appealed to nobody. I think the majority of those who voted for him (myself included) were petrified of the alternative, and its IMPOSSIBLE to win an election that way.
I’m a bigot? I was unaware of that.
Wait actually I am one, towards liberals and democraps.
He’s right. Without the Hispanic vote, the GOP is toast. This may be a hail-mary, but it’s our only shot.
Just look at all the Hispanic votes the 1986 amnesty got us! Are you out of your mind? Did you sign up on FR to urge surrender?
somehow the warped logic on this is lost on me! the GOP is supposed to do something STUPID before the President does, so they can claim they WIN?! and..this will accomplish what?!
“GOP must call Obamas bluff on immigration (and grant AMNESTY before he does)”
We are so screwed.
Man who did this last time was a US President Ronald Reagan and he was a Republican and was reelected!
