Usually the technocrats did better, but both sets suffered from Unwarranted Cultural Superiority Syndrome - they thought they knew what the customers wanted better than the customers did.
Or put another way, they all thought that they could dictate what customers would buy as opposed to the other way around.
GM has yet to learn that you sell what the *customer* wants, even if you think it’s stupid. They still don’t get that.
How long has it taken them to get in on the retro craze and get a hot Camaro out the door? Ten years? Heck, even Chrysler with the Charger beat them.
