He didn’t endorse Romney. He said positive things about every concievable candidate, Romney, Pawlenty, Palin, etc.

Says it all doesn’t it between him, and his daughter...makes you wonder, or know that it was GOOD that McCain lost!

Steve Schmidt, chief strategist for U.S. Sen. John McCains (R-Ariz.) presidential campaign... No wonder McCain lost. Thank God.
My apologies to those FReepers who stayed home and sat on their hands on election night. This Trojan horse could have been ours.

The biggest problem I have with Schmidt's statement is that he failed to acknowledge the biggest issue; that is, the judiciary's role. Anyone with an intellectual understanding of conservatism should be very aware of the difference between an evolving sense of justice and what it is that judges do.
In other words, I truly don't mind if a subset of Republicans are themselves in favor of changing laws to accomodate homosexual unions. But for them to gloss over, as if trivial, laws being passed by the people's representatives *versus* change by judicial fiat really really bothers me.

I still can’t believe I voted for this putz. There isn’t enough bleach and or a strong enough power-washer to get that stink off. I’ll carry the shame with me for the rest of my days.

It’s curious, since allowing same-sex couples to pretend to be married fails the test of voting everywhere, even in California.
Why would “strategists” think the GOP should give up things they support which are popular?

Since Schmidt is a technical type gun for hire, it is surprising that he would take a position on an issue like gay marriage.

If I [were] to offer free political advice to the gay community in California, Schmidt said, it would be dont spend your time looking for people about why it was defeated, but instead focus on what you could do next time and get ready to run the next campaign, because they were very, very close to succeeding. Yeah, because actionable intel is everything.

The comments about McCain here are interesting....but keep in mind, he couldn’t run on his own. So look to the R leadership and consider them in the same light you consider McCain. If the RNC brought him to the party as the candidate to support, they are no better. They have successfully killed true conservative candidate campaigns over the years. Those that seem conservative that they supported were supported because they believed the candidate was able to be manuevered and manipulated to do their bidding...displaying a point of weakness, or hiding something in their closet that the RNC knew about to hold over them. The party leadership, not just the candidate, cannot be trusted or believed and needs replacing....but then what? You still have RINOs in the party at other levels who will try to influence toward the Left. They aren’t even standing on party planks any more as can be seen in McCain. Perhaps it is time to simply put the trash in the trash bin and begin anew. AIP is clearly conservative in every sense. If you choose to buy into the third party won’t work view...remember it was the RINOs that fed that buzzard to keep their party members in line, in fear, and following them.

Schmidt's sister is a lesbian so that's all the reason he needs in believing that a precept of centuries old Judeo-Christian dogma be abolished? Schmidt's a very unprincipled man.
