Who got negative? I simply expressed disagreement that every rainbow is necessarily a gay reference.

I just don’t see what your child drawing a rainbow and massachusetts allowing gay marraige and making the states name the gay pride logo have to do with each other.

Hmmm...does Jesse Jackson still name his organization the “Rainbow-PUSH Coalition”?

I love visiting Concord, Lexington, Bunker Hill, etc.

And can’t believe how wacko the state has become since then.

Can you imagine trying to throw off King George in the Massachusetts of today?

It demonstrates the overall point of my disagreement — rainbows aren’t necessarily symbols of gayness. Sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow ... a decorative use of the color spectrum with no sexual overtones whatsoever.

What about that defies understanding?

Little anecodate about how a perfectly innocuous term can be hijacked by the Gay lobby:

Last fall, my neighbor was all upset about the "Iris Festival" that was going to be held in our small town here on the Oregon Coast. I was puzzled, and asked why the protest? We love to go to the annual Tulip Festival in Mt. Vernon, Washington - absolutely beautiful fields of tulips stretching nearly as far as you can see.

My neighbor then informed me that Iris is the goddess of the rainbow - and that the festival was a gay pride event. There was quite a controvery in town about it, but naturally, it did take place, and now we're told it's going to be an annual event.

Our little town was designated as "gay-friendly" a few years ago by The Oregonian. Since then, there's been a steady influx of openly gay people living here. One of our city councilmen (who is most likely our next mayor)is openly gay and lives with his partner. They both wear wedding rings...

RED HERRING, (N) a red herring is an argument, given in reply, that does not address the original issue. Critically, a red herring is a deliberate attempt to change the subject or divert the argument. This is known formally in the English vocabulary as a digression which is usually denoted as "red herring". or Ignoratio elenchi (also known as irrelevant conclusion[1] or irrelevant thesis) is the informal fallacy of presenting an argument that may in itself be valid, but does not address the issue in question.

see while your child may draw a rainbow and is probably not a memeber of glaad (although they do start them young in public school) they both have nothing to do with the state that allows gay marriage using gay imagery in their ad campaign...

Kids in Boston Harbor. Another double entendre from the ad’s producer? ;)

It was not a red herring. It was reductio ad absurdum — reducing the argument to the absurd to prove the point ...

Reductio ad absurdum — a type of logical argument where one assumes a claim for the sake of argument and derives an absurd or ridiculous outcome, and then concludes that the original claim must have been wrong as it led to an absurd result.

Your observation that the use of rainbows in this ad MUST be gay would necessarily mean that all use of rainbows is necessarily gay. Thus, my daughter’s use of rainbows would have to be gay.

The point was that sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow ... and, the use of that particular form of logical argumentation was perfectly appropriate, and proved the point nicely.

watch out for your west flank, vermont is MA without the economy

It's also less fashionable, because all the ugly, flannel plaid wearing women, with big dogs and comfortable shoes live in VT, and all the 'sweet guy' designers live in MA. ;o)

congratulations, you are absurd

Strawman,

A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.

I did not say that your daughter was gay for drawing a rainbow, I said that 1) the rainbow is a symbol of gay pride, and 2) it is used in the new MA tourism ad, both of which are true and neither of which are disproved if your daughter draws a rainbow and may or may not be a member of GLAAD

EVERY use of the rainbow symbol is not necessarily a form of advertising homosexuality, but since MA was the FIRST state to allow homosexual 'marriage', and the Upper Cape is well known for the homosexual enclave of Provincetown, the natural assumption by anyone living here, or knowing about the strength of the homosexual activists in this area, IS that it somehow is representing that movement.

Same thing happens in Key West FL, where the rainbow flag hanging outside an establishment either denotes that is is owned by a homosexual, or wants to make the political statement that is it friendly to homosexuals.

I personally DETEST the fact that the homosexual movement has co-opted the word gay, so I refuse to use that word in connection with the movement. I also detest the fact that they took the lovely symbol of the rainbow to represent their lifestyle, thus ruining it for anyone else who might want to use it in an innocent manner.

I’m not quite sure why that single smart-aelicy throw-away line has you so bent out of shape — but, my point stands.

Not every rainbow — whether drawn by my daughter, or in Massachussetts advertisements — necessarily has anything to do with homosexuality. Thus, I have no problem with the colorful design in the MA advertisement.
