I think that’s smoke from where the gear touched down the first time.

I don’t think so. There is definitely something like a small chute trailing before the first impact.

Freight may have shifted as the porpoise was quite pronounced in what looks like pretty good landing conditions. Appears as if the pilot tried to nose down before the stall on the second bounce, collaspsing the port landing gear. Terrible way to go. Prayers out to the pilots and their families.

It's the sun shining on the winglet on the right side. The video isn't the best quality.

Here’s a link to a video stream from BBC. There’s a button to press with your mouse to view it in full screen mode.

A possible explanation...I’ll look at the angles again

trailing small parachute

Watch it when the plane starts to roll over to the left. It's the winglet on the end of the right wing. Because of the angle it appears to be behind the plane until the left wing goes down.

Yes, I see now what we’re talking about. I had not looked at it that carefully first time through.

I don’t know why they scrimp on those video systems. The difference in cost between one that produces barely acceptable video and one that does a really good job isn’t that much when you consider the lifetime of the system. There are going to be times when a good, high quality video of an event would be worth its weight in gold.

Even though it’s not the best quality video, it sure does hurt to watch it. I love aviation, have for as long as I can remember. It pains me to see something like this. My prayers and heart go out to the family and friends of the crew. If there’s any silver lining, at least in my my view of flying, at least they went doing something they probably loved. Sure beats being in an ALF for years and then on life support for a week or two.

It appears to be higher resolution than the video from the Japanese network.

I think what looks like a trailing drouge chute is actually the right winglet.

I was wondering if some of the cargo started moving around.

BINGO..... He 's nose heavy.. He cant keep her in the flair for landing .. look for a out of balance condition.. either before take off or during flight...
