4 cops shot, suspect dead after Calif. traffic stop
Police say suspect behind two separate shootings involving officers
OAKLAND, Calif. - Four officers were in critical condition and a suspect dead on Saturday after gunfire at a traffic stop led to a massive manhunt that ended in a shootout, police said.
Two officers were shot in the first incident just after 1 p.m. after they stopped the suspect's vehicle in east Oakland, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
The suspect fled the scene on foot into a nearby neighborhood, police said, leading to an intense manhunt by dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies.
Streets were roped off and an entire area of east Oakland shut to traffic.

NOT BEING A JERK, If you are a cop there, show your outrage at the sanctuary! I was on a federal level. I respect your thoughts...but when will we at least eliminate the element that is not lawfully here?
There are slums in Rio de Janeiro where the police won’t go. Maybe it’s time to implement a similar policy for the U.S. cities where the police are despised by those they seek to protect.
An illegal Obama supporter? Why not an atheist Darwinist? How about a gun-grabbing abortionist?
A massive manhunt then got underway and about two hours later, the suspect was located at an apartment in East Oakland, not far from the initial shooting. Acting police chief Howard Jordan told reporters police were tipped off that the suspect was in a nearby apartment. Officers and the SWAT team moved in and two other police officers were shot by the suspect.
All four police died this evening at Highland hospital where hundreds of fellow police officers have gathered. The suspect was killed. None of the officers or the dead assailant have been identified. Oakland police will hold a news briefing later tonight at police headquarters with more details.

Exactly, I wouldn’t jump to that as my first conclusion with this being Oakland.
> I am a police officer here in CA, and this is hitting hard, especially since I have knowledge I cant share here.
Thoughts and prayers up from New Zealand, FRiend, to you and your brother officers. Thanks for your Service, and stay safe out there.

My prayers and condolences for the officers and their families.
It’s a very difficult job that our police have and it’s not getting easier, either. Sometimes there are stories here about the police that anger me, but I always try to keep in mind that they are putting there butts on the line every day to maintain order in our society, and it is a high-risk occupation, double that in places like Oakland.
One only has to look at Mexico to see how much worse off everyone is when the police are corrupt or just give up.
It’s my studied opinion that the overwhelming majority of our police (including the few I’ve had the privilge to know personally) are stand up men and woman, who take all aspects of their jobs very seriously.
It is a terrible tragedy for all of us when good men fall in the line of duty like this.
May god have mercy on our fallen heros.
If only we could bring the killer back to life so that we could kill him again, more slowly.
I grieve for the families of the slain officers and really, for all of us. Prayers being said.
Thank you for the update.
Oh, that visual brings tears to my eyes.
Hang in there. Our prayers are with you all.
There will be an investigation
It will be determined that the cops were at fault.
Many here will agree.
About ten years ago I had to drive over there from San Francisco to pick my husband up at the Oakland airport ... at night time, took the wrong turn off and had to drive city streets to the airport, stopped at a service station for instructions and was stunned to see they had police guards at local gas stations after dark... Jerry Brown did nothing as mayor to make Oakland better, if anything it got worse (from my viewpoint) under him.

Very sad

> I try not to speculate, It`s the MO that I see.
We don’t know because we haven’t been told. Speculation at this point is futile.
What we do know is that four cops are dead, as is the perp. We should be focusing on the tragedy this presents for the families and friends of all parties concerned.
Maybe the perp was an illegal, maybe a muslim, maybe it was somebody’s granny running amuck. Or maybe it was an ex-cop — we don’t know, and speculation isn’t helpful at this point.
I agree with kjc1 — best to drop that line of enquiry until we are told more.
Just my $0.02 worth.
I’m betting both reply 2 and 3 are correct.
